Today we’d like to introduce you to Allyson Blankenburg.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As a child, I fell in love with photography. I was in yearbook, photojournalism and took a number of art minor classes at UH. My love for it continued into adulthood when I finally decided to take the plunge and get a nice camera. When my oldest was born, I became obsessed with learning how to take great pictures of her. After staying home with my kids for a few years, I decided it was time to do something for myself that still allowed me the freedom to be with my kids and also earn some money. So, I opened up my business and have been building that for the last 5 years or so.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road! Is opening up any business smooth? I struggled with knowing how to properly open up a legit business and then run said business. I have invested in myself and business over the years with coaching and education, and nice gear. It takes a lot of time, effort, and money to run a business, even if it is something you love doing!
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in Houston family, maternity, and newborn photography. I am branching into weddings in 2023 as well and have been shooting for a well-known high-end wedding photographer in Houston for the last year! I love it so much, and they are like family to me. I think what sets me apart from most is my personality. I genuinely love what I do and really enjoy all aspects of it. I value photography and want to get prints and albums into people’s hands and homes so they can have tangible memories for the future generations.
How do you define success?
I define success as being able to do something you love and what truly brings you happiness, but also being able to provide for your family. If I am able to do both of those things, I am being successful in my mind.
