Today we’d like to introduce you to Suzanne Stroh.
Suzanne, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In November of 2011, we commercialized the production of our family’s bloody Mary mix recipe, “Shaggy Dog Bloody Mary”! Within a year it was available at 25 HEB locations. Within 4 years it was available in approximately 250 HEB locations, various Central Markets, specialty stores, bars and restaurants.
In March of 2015 we opened “On A Whim” gift boutique, our first brick & mortar location here in Old Town Spring.
Both Shaggy Dog Bloody Mary and On A Whim are family owned and operated. We couldn’t have gotten this far and be as successful with both business’s as we are without this being a team effort of myself, my husband Don and my daughter Jamie.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Opening “On A Whim” has been a fairly smooth experience and operation. Everything has fallen easily into place. We started very small and took it one step at a time. The only struggle in the beginning was agreeing upon a name. We actually opened without a name for the shop, hence the name…”On A Whim”!
The only thing that is somewhat of a challenge is trying to juggle 2 businesses that are both extremely busy during the 4th Quarter of the year. Thankfully my daughter Jamie does a fabulous job running the shop! She runs the daily operations and does all the ordering, keeping inventory fresh and unique.
Please tell us about On A Whim.
On A Whim is a one-stop shop for all your gift giving needs.
We carry a variety of local Texas specialty food products, gift items, home decor, boutique clothing and jewelry.
We are known for having unique items, reasonable prices and excellent customer service! We strive to fill the shop with items our customers don’t see everywhere.
We are very proud of the fact that within just 3 years we have outgrown our little shop and are ready to relocate into a much larger shop in early 2018. Don’t worry, we aren’t going far, moving just right next door!
We have a wonderful group of repeat customers that have been very supportive and are always spreading the word about our shop.
There are many other businesses in Old Town Spring that have been awesome and contributed, sending customers our way that are looking for unique items and good customer service.
