Exploring Life & Business with Stephanie Disney of Blue Hills at Round Top

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Disney.

Hi Stephanie, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
My family purchased Blue Hills in Round Top, TX five years ago. We had always enjoyed shopping the antiques show, and Blue Hills was our favorite venue. When we saw it was for sale, we thought it would be a fun adventure to dive into the world of antiques as venue owners and managers. I run the venue with my brother, Corey Layne; he handles the operations and leasing while I manage marketing, social media, and overall curation. With his background in commercial real estate and mine in interior design, it has been a perfect fit for running an antiques show. Since taking over in 2018, we have built multiple new buildings and doubled the shopping square footage at Blue Hills while also improving the offerings. We also host events throughout the show; our Dinners in the Hayfield in particular have been very popular.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Running an antique show is the most fun job in the world, but a lot of hard work! There are always unforeseen challenges every show; sometimes it’s weather, sometimes its personnel issues. We joke that the shows are like camp for adults because you are with the same group of people for 2-3 weeks, seeing each other every day and sharing your lives during an event that feel a little like Disneyland for the antique lover! So, within that, there can be so much fun and camaraderie but also controversy.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Blue Hills is a fantastic Round Top experience. We pride ourselves in having something for everyone. You can find everything from the highest-end European antiques to very accessible vintage Americana furniture or well-made reproductions. We also have great food offerings and multiple bars on site; you can stay all day and not run out things to see and do! And lastly, it has to be said that we have the cleanest bathrooms in Round Top; it’s what we’ve always been known for 😉

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
I would say relationships. We are a family business and have so much fun working together as siblings. We have also had the honor of cultivating a lovely community of dealers at Blue Hills, and they have all become our friends over the years. We are in a very relational business and are always thinking about the customer experience as well as how to promote a great show for our dealers, staff, and everyone involved.
