Hi Amanda, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi! My name is Amanda Garibay and I’ve always aspired to be an entrepreneur. When I attended the University of Houston, I decided to major in Marketing because I loved social media and wanted to learn more about the industry. Since I was interested in becoming an entrepreneur, I also took several social entrepreneurship classes. After discovering more about each topic, I was inspired to follow my dreams. Soon after I started college, I decided to pursue content creation, and I began posting online. At first, I started on YouTube and then transitioned to the newest app at the time, TikTok. I had no prior experience when I started creating content at the age of eighteen. I was so nervous to start, and I was afraid of what people who knew me would think. It would take me hours to make one video because I was so nervous. However, as time went on I became more comfortable in front of the camera, and I found my own personal style. I loved posting anything I was passionate about, from my favorite beauty products and outfit ideas to lifestyle and travel vlogs. I just loved creating content, and within a year of posting on TikTok, my dreams started coming true. I gained over ten thousand followers and started traveling and working with brands that I always dreamed of working with. It was an incredible experience, and I’ve made some amazing friends along my journey. I’m so excited to continue creating content, and I’m thrilled to see what the future holds.
My content creator journey inspired me to pursue more of my entrepreneurial dreams. While attending the University of Houston, I was offered the opportunity to co-found a business startup with my now fiancé and a college friend. I fell in love with the idea and accepted the opportunity. We founded Fragrance de Flor, an e-commerce fragrance business that offers a huge variety of luxury perfumes and colognes for everyone. I had never started a business before, so it was definitely a learning experience. It took about eight months of researching, designing, coding, and networking before we were able to launch our website. Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In my content creation journey, I mentioned how I started on YouTube and transitioned to TikTok. What I didn’t say was how hard it was to start on YouTube, especially since I didn’t have experience in video editing or talking in front of a camera. I found it very difficult to grow on YouTube, I believe it took me almost six months to gain my first one hundred followers. I didn’t want to give up, but I felt so discouraged. I loved creating content, so I decided to venture out and start looking into other platforms to post on. Surprisingly, around the same time TikTok was created, and I slowly started posting on there for fun. I’m a huge believer in “when one door closes, another one opens,” and I felt like TikTok was this new chance, and I was so excited to start posting. In 2021, I started to take social media seriously by posting consistently, and my dedication paid off. So, if you’re feeling discouraged because something isn’t working out like you thought it would, don’t give up. You never know what doors are waiting for you to open.

On TikTok, my username is @amandgfa, and I love showcasing the latest beauty and fashion products, travel vlogs, and lifestyle content. Some of my proudest moments were when I had a few of my TikToks hit over a million views! I remember the views just kept going up, and I couldn’t believe so many people had seen my video.
