Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Mays.
Hi Taylor, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
The goal for my business is to depict people and life through my art to showcase that there is beauty in everything. I want people to be able to see themselves when they look at my candles and be able to feel that representation. The very first candle collection that I created is called “The Muse.” This is a collection of candles shaped as the human body. They come in a variety of shapes and colors. Each of my jar candles also come with a corresponding music playlist, specifically made to listen to while enjoying your candle, and can also be used as massage candles to moisturize your skin. They’re eco-friendly, non-toxic, hypoallergenic, pet-friendly, vegan, 100% coconut soy wax. I believe it’s very important to create a space where you feel comfortable, safe, and happy. Allowing yourself to revitalize and relax somewhere that feels like a true expression of you, and I hope that the addition of my artistic touch to your space can help provide some of that.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
At the peak of my business, I lost love lives, including my mother. Although I’ve gone through a few setbacks and losses on the road to self-discovery with my business, I have never let it limit me and my abilities as a business owner and a creative. In order to reclaim my time, I’ve decided to dedicate myself and my art to self-care and self-expression. As a creative, our art is a reflection of us, and it may lead to learning to love yourself in a different way.

In order to reclaim my time, I’ve decided to dedicate myself and my art to self-care and self-expression. As a creative, our art is a reflection of us, and it may lead to learning to love yourself in a different way. Ultimately, if we truly set the intention to, we learn to take that risk and utilize the gifts and talents we have in totality despite the ills, outside opinions, or insecurities that affect our ability to accept our own work. I want to create something thought-provoking, new, and exciting. My goal for my art is to be able to showcase the beauty of the things we might not always appreciate. I want everyone to be able to find something that they can relate to through my art and my work. I want them to know that I put my all into it. That’s really all any artist can ask for
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson that I have learned in my business that also applies to my personal life is to drown out the doubt and not take advice from people I would not switch lives with. I have also learned to pace myself and take breaks. As artists, we can burn out or go through creative blockages, and sometimes we need to allow ourselves to accept the help and knowledge from those around us in order to give ourselves a chance to recharge and recover.
