Conversations with Alejandro Guerra

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandro Guerra.

Alejandro Guerra

Hi Alejandro, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I got started in the video and audio space when I was about 15 years old creating vlogs to put on my personal YouTube channel. I would see these amazing videos from people like Casey Neistat, Sam Kolder, and loved watching movies that ended up being cult classics that my siblings would put on as I grew up. I couldn’t draw, definitely couldn’t paint but when I had a camera in my hand I felt I could create anything that came to my creative mind. The only piece of equipment I had available was my IPhone 7 Plus where I would shoot, edit, and post to Youtube on. My senior year of high school came around and I came to realize that this was something I wanted to pursue as. my career. To most this was a wild decision since video isn’t what it is nowadays. Video hadn’t even been released to Instagram yet and everyone was posting to Vimeo or YouTube. I figure pursue something you love over pleasing others so I dove head first into filmmaking

Right after high school, I started an internship at Studio 713 and right off the bat I was thrown into bigger budget video shoots. This showed a whole new side of the business I had never seen because I was used to working with entry-level gear so I was sold on my future career after the first day. After a couple of years of interning there and working temporary jobs, I started working with a real estate investment group being their media guy. Shooting videos, taking photos, recording podcasts, running the livestream, and constantly learning something new about real estate.

Once the pandemic hit, videos became in super high demand and I got hired at a few local churches to either help film pre-recordings for their livestreams or edit and piece them together. Outside of all that, I was doing video shoots for businesses or artists who wanted visuals for their social media under the brand name DasAlex. After working solo dolo for awhile I realized why not create with people who I like to work with and that’s when my friend Omar and I created the audio/video production company known as Creative Minds Productions

Creative Minds Productions is a production company here in Houston we opened in 2021, that specializes in audio, video, and social media management. We’ve worked alongside companies and people such as McDonalds, United Airlines, La Mafia, and many more local businesses. It’s been one wild ride navigating this new avenue of owning and running a company but I know my young self would be mind blown to see what was once a dream is now turning into a reality.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wish it was a smooth road but life doesn’t work like that sometimes. Learning and going down a path no one you know has gone down was definitely an early struggle. It was always a whole bunch of trial and error and a lot of Youtube tutorials. One thing people wont tell you when you first start is that there will be this gap from what you know is good and what you can create. The only way to close this gap is increasing the volume of work you do to get experienced. Through this you learn your style, your gear, and the creative route you ultimately want to go down.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the videographer/photographer/editor for Creative Minds Productions. I specialize in all aspects of video production and photography (Pre-Production, Filming , Post Production) We’re most known for making our job fun. We know being in front of the camera is very intimidating for some so we love being personal hype men for our clients or cracking jokes to lighten the mood. I’m most proud of 2 things, one would be still pursing film even after being told by many that it wouldn’t work out and two would have to be opening up Creative Minds Productions. I always had a dream of one day opening my own production company and working alongside dope creatives knocking out projects and making memories. What sets us apart from others would have to be the vast knowledge and experience both Omar and I share in our respective fields. We use it to create the best content possible for every. client we work with
