Meet Jonathan Giraldo of Toros Lifestyle Soccer in Sawyer Heights

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Giraldo.

Jonathan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It all started in 2010. After retiring from professional soccer I was looking for ways to stay connected with the game. We decided to create a soccer facility that stood out from the pack of indoor metal buildings that were indoors soccer facilities.

Our idea was to incorporate all of the culture of soccer. The art, fashion, and lifestyle that soccer players of all levels enjoy and live. After all, anyone that is a soccer fan knows that it’s not simply a sport but a way of life.

We developed the idea of out outdoors cages turf field and just ran with it. It soon became the hangout for soccer people ranging from professionals to the local community youth and everything in between. After a few successful years, we decided we needed to expand. Fast forward 8 years later and we finally bring our vision to the next level. Our new location will be one of the most unique and exciting facilities in the country!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
MANY road bumps along the way. We started this project with very little money. It was just our ideas and our social networks behind it. I remember for a brief 2-3 month period a storm blew out our transformer and the apartment community from which we lease out space didn’t have the money to fix it. Looking back I laugh that we pulled it off but we ran leagues and everything in the dark with battery lights in restrooms extension cables temp light and candles.

Since then we say: if we didn’t go under without power, we will survive anything”

That shows the power of the passion of soccer. Customers didn’t entirely care of the amenities they just wanted to play!

Please tell us about Toros Lifestyle Soccer.
We are an outdoor turf soccer and fitness facility. We run adult and youth leagues. Rent the field and facilities out for training, parties events etc.

We are proud that we were the first ones in town to put turf outdoors and since then many have replicated the idea. We love the fact we tried something no one had done. We welcome the competition we think it just shows there is so much interest in the game. Especially in recent years, soccer is booming in this country.

Our social network is also Avery key component. Being an ex-pro athlete I have many friends who still play and like to hang out at the facilities, either to get a workout or just to hang out with other soccer people. It creates a very cool and unique atmosphere for our facilities

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Not sure I would change much. Each mistake we made business-wise has lead us to a more knowledgeable point.

We see new places pop up and make the same mistakes we made 8 years ago. So it’s kind of validating for us to look back and see we’ve survived our mistakes and grown from them.
