Meet Amy Rollo of Heights Family Counseling in Houston Heights

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Rollo.

Amy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Heights Family Counseling started with a passion to be able to offer counseling and evaluation services for the whole family in the Houston Heights area. To be able to journey with children, teenagers, couples, and adults through this adventure we call life seems too good to be true at times. I firmly believe that being human means that there will be struggles, such as anxiety, depression, discovering values, difficulties with relationships, and grief and loss. Being able to help an individual cope, help hold their burden, even for a short time, and provide hope is some of the best parts of the job.

When I first helped make the dream of Heights Family Counseling become a reality, it all came together so fast. I had my first client before securing office space and after my first month I was already using a waitlist. Things happened fast! At month two, two therapists walked into my office with so much compassion for our fellow humans, love for their counseling craft, eagerness to learn, and exemplary credentials, we knew right then that the Heights Family Counseling just became a true family comprised of some of the most talented and compassionate counselors.

Has it been a smooth road?
When your passion and talents meet, things tend to go smoothly. However, like most great things in life, creating Heights Family Counseling took hard work and sleepless nights to create a place we felt proud of. Whether it was hiring the perfect fit for our team, meeting other professionals in the area, or finding the space to call home, things came together and came together fast!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Heights Family Counseling story. Tell us more about the business.
Heights Family Counseling is a boutique counseling practice located in the Houston Heights area. Our vision is to build upon a person’s strengths, help provide unity, strength, and harmony within relationships and families, and to journey alongside youth to help with emotional regulation, coping skills, and provide a safe place to express feelings. We specialize in counseling children, adolescents, adults, and couples. Our goal is to work alongside each person to help them recognize their own strengths and resiliency in order to foster a more meaningful and authentic life.

We specialize in working with children, adolescents, adults, and couples. In addition, we work with clients with AD/HD and autism spectrum disorders. Heights Family Therapy owner, Amy Rollo, M.A., LSSP, LPC-S has specialized in evaluation services for well over 15 years. Amy understands that the process is much more than determining a diagnosis. There is typically significant anxiety and fears regarding the potential diagnosis, and subsequently the process can be a difficult time for many families. Amy strives to make the process as comfortable as possible, as well as help recognize the child’s strengths, determine interventions, and when appropriate, work with the school to provide the best educational setting possible for your child’s success in life.

We are most proud that we meet clients where they are in life. Sometimes that means using Star War figurines to help teach emotional regulation, playing games in our sensory tents, or talking about life’s most vulnerable moments on the couch. We know the strength and vulnerability it takes to participate in the counseling process, and we are proud to be part of the equation to helping each client become the best version of themselves.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I can’t imagine a world without counseling. Life comes with joys, stresses, and sorrows, and counseling can be an extremely effective way to deal with life’s curveballs. We hope to continue to be able to offer our services to the Houston Heights area for many years to come!
