Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Fuentes.
Hi Jose, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I came from Venezuela as immigrant in 2010, working for a company that sponsored my green card. Graduated as engineer in my country, have being working for the last 14 years in the corporate world. My wife and my two sons came along and joined me in this endeavor. Always looking for better opportunities and with an entrepreneur mentality, my wife and I started a local delivery business called JJ Courier Xpress. For the last 4 years we have been growing our business, offering additional services to our community, now specialized in international shipping, through our partners, FedEx and Liberty Express. Currently we serve a great latino community in the area. Excellent service and great responsibility is our motto.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not easy at all. My wife and younger son started struggling with the language, and it was difficult for us to adapt to the new environment. We came with nothing other than clothes and dreams, with a big heart and a lot of courage, determined to be successful here. We started renting a small apartment, later on buying our first house. My work helped me out to get our first car. My two sons started high and middle school respectively, and my wife got her first job. She is a civil engineer and a great business partner. Learning English and managing a family budget was our first challenge. Currently, my elder son works for a big Tech company in Telecommunications, and my younger son runs his own business in Austin. They both are living now their own dreams and enjoying their own journeys.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I started as Automation Engineer in 2010. Later on, I’ve got a supervisor position on Engineering. In the last three years I’ve changed roles in the company, and I am currently working as OT Cybersecurity Consultant. On the business side, as entrepreneur, my wife and I are running our small local delivery service company, JJ Courier Xpress, which has evolved to become an international shipping service. In my free time, I enjoy working as a Success Coach, helping young people to thrive as immigrants and be successful in their lives. I developed a Coaching Program called “Highway to Sucess”, which is a combination of Life Coaching and Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) I use to teach young people how to establish and achieve goals and help them to develop the successful person they bear inside.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I was born in Cumana, a town beach in eastern Venezuela. I enjoyed going to the beach after school and spend the day out there.
