Meet Shantel Harris of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shantel Harris

Hi Shantel, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey into the mobile notary world is deeply personal, shaped by the challenges and uncertainties that the pandemic brought into my life. Like so many others, I found myself facing a major shift when I was let go from my job in corporate America. It was a difficult time, filled with doubt and fear about what the future would hold.

I had always had a notary stamp, but it was something I used more as a favor to friends and acquaintances, never imagining it could be the key to my next chapter. One day, as I was browsing YouTube, I stumbled upon videos of notary and real estate professionals who were hesitant to go to clients’ homes because of COVID-19. It struck me how the world had changed overnight, and how much people needed services that could adapt to these new realities.

That’s when the idea for Right On Tyme Notary Signing Services was born. It wasn’t just about starting a business; it was about finding purpose in a time of uncertainty. I wanted to create something that not only provided a service but also brought comfort and convenience to people during such a challenging time. The thought of helping others in a way that was safe and reliable became my driving force.

Starting this business has been a journey of growth and resilience. Every time I meet a client, I’m reminded of why I started. It’s more than just notarizing documents; it’s about being there for people when they need it most, offering them peace of mind when everything else feels uncertain.

Today, Right On Tyme is more than just a business—it’s a testament to the power of turning challenges into opportunities. I’m incredibly proud of how far we’ve come, and I’m grateful every day for the chance to make a difference, one signature at a time

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
it has been anything but smooth, and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. The challenges I’ve faced along the way have shaped not only my business but also me as a person.

One of the biggest hurdles was the uncertainty that came with starting a business during the pandemic. I had lost my job and was stepping into an entirely new industry. The fear of the unknown was overwhelming at times. There were moments when I doubted whether I had made the right decision, especially when it felt like I was starting from scratch with no safety net.

Another struggle was adapting to the constantly changing environment due to COVID-19. The health and safety of my clients were my top priority, which meant finding ways to provide services that were both safe and reliable. This required me to rethink traditional methods and be creative in how I delivered my services. There were logistical challenges too—ensuring I had the proper protective equipment, managing time-sensitive appointments, and balancing the needs of clients who were dealing with their own anxieties and uncertainties.

Financial stability was also a concern. Starting a business from the ground up, especially in such a volatile time, meant there were moments of financial strain. I had to be incredibly resourceful, sometimes stretching every dollar, and making sacrifices to keep the business afloat. It was a tough balancing act, but it taught me the value of perseverance and resilience.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?

One of the things I love most about being a notary is the privilege of witnessing people’s lives unfold in the most meaningful ways. I’ve had the honor of notarizing for a couple as they closed on their first home, and then returning to them two years later to assist with the adoption of their baby. These personal connections, and the amazing people I meet along the way, are what make this work so special.

There are moments that truly humble me—like when I find myself praying with a client in the hospital or wiping away tears after helping someone complete their last will and testament. These experiences remind me of the profound impact we have on each other’s lives. It’s these connections that fuel my passion for what I do, and it’s why I’m so deeply committed to providing a service that is both personal and meaningful.
