Today we’d like to introduce you to Karen Gomez
Hi Karen, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
It’s funny because I was actually in school to do hair. My husband was enlisted in the navy at the time, and we were getting ready to move, so I had switched into the Esthetics program for timing purposes, and I just fell in love with everything. It’s been my biggest passion to date, and I’ve now been in this industry about 7-8 years. I worked at a couple different salons before deciding to go on my own and now I’ve been TheSkinKareLady for 3 years! My business is my greatest accomplishment.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing is smooth if we are being honest. I opened up right after the Covid-19 shutdown. I was so nervous wondering if I would even get clients. I would say those first 6 months were definitely the hardest. I was learning how to be a business owner which comes with all of the unknown. It has been nothing if not hard, but I love what I do and I would not have it any other way.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
In a nutshell I do Corrective Skin Care, Body waxing and Brow and Lash enhancements. I specialize in Corrective skincare treating concerns from Hyperpigmentation to acne. I do a lot of chemical peels, corrective facial treatments, and targeted facial series. While I do specialize in skincare, I am also known for performing quick and painless Brazilian waxes. I have perfected my waxing technique and use professional grade hard and soft wax to ensure my clients receive that silky smooth finish. I am most proud of how much growth I’ve made in the past 3 years; my business grew so much in the first full year after I opened, and it has continued to do so since. I am grateful every single day for all of my clients and just to continue to be able to service everyone. I would say what sets me apart is unlike chain spas where they focus on revenue and product sales, this is my business and is an extension of myself. Where I value building that relationship with my clients on a personal level to try and achieve their skin care goals, without the added pressure of product pushing or treating them like another number. Without them, I wouldn’t be as successful, which is why I value my clients and the relationships I build with them. Also, my competitive pricing, comfortable environment, attention to detail, and just overall a great experience. I am a people person, and I make sure everyone is comfortable.
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is that my clients leave satisfied. That they see the difference in their skin, as we work toward their skin goals. That they keep coming back, they share their experiences. I do this work to make my clients look and feel beautiful in their own skin. It is truly my passion, and I strive to be the best for my clients.
