Life & Work with Destin Jones of Humble, Tx

Today we’d like to introduce you to Destin Jones

Hi Destin, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
idk i kind of started making music just to have something me and my friends can ride around to but i’ve been in love with music and learning about the industry since i was young. i was always scared to portray myself as an artist because at the time local “soundcloud” artists were looked down upon, but as i got older and started to go thru more as a man i found it easier to express myself thru music rather than anybody i had around me. from ages 17 to about 22 i had only made around 15 songs and nun of them were ever released. but towards the end of 2022 i went thru a crazy breakup which led me to taking sum time away from everything to really figure myself out and get myself together and in the midst of that, i found a deeper passion for music. no matter what emotion i felt i always ran to music ever since i was a kid and when i went thru that breakup thats exactly what i did, ran to music. i stumbled upon the “underground” rap scene and just seeing how young everybody was and how much motion they were having, it showed me that it was possible. so i started back making music but instead of writing songs like i used to, i learned how to punch in and that’s when my creativity took over. i dropped my first official mixtape, had my first performance and many more since, and it just seemed like i got better and was more motivated after every new thing i did. but to me music is so much more than just making songs and performing them. music has taught me more than i coulda ever imagined. it taught me discipline as well as perseverance to a certain extent. the fact that i was able to do what i’ve done, bring in the number of streams i did, and promote myself the way i do ALONE, it gave me another outlook on life. as of now i’m on my 11th project a year into taking myself seriously and i can tell u now im not going anywhere. i just want to push a message to all the young aspiring artists out there. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF. PUSH YOURSELF. you can do it! doesn’t matter if u get 3 likes or a million showcase your art as much as you can and NEVER feel like anybody ever owes you a listen or their support! the people you went to school with owe you nothing you will get more love from people you’ve never met which is why that should be your target audience. my name is destin i go by got doe and i appreciate you guys for having me. <3

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
there have definitely been a few setbacks throughout my career but i record so many songs it allows me to always be able to have atleast 3/4 albums worth of songs in my phone ready to be released if there ever was a time where i couldn’t record or just went a while without dropping anything. i try not to make my fans suffer because im going thru something or catch writers block so i’ll always have something put away for them.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
i wouldn’t necessarily call myself a rapper but i guess that’s what most would label me. i feel as if im an artist tryna to create his own wave or genre. i specialize in recording my own vocals, creating my own album and single covers, audio engineering, even booking my own shows. i’m most proud of being able to do everything on my own and not really needing anybody for help or guidance but even with that being said i’m still a student of the game and i’m always willing to learn more. as far as what sets me apart from others i would say my work ethic. most people expect overnight success and while that’s possible, it doesn’t happen to everyone. if it was up to me and i didn’t care about over saturating myself i could drop a 11 song project every month all while still doing singles in between. everyday its a 24/7 grind i learn new things about music and myself while in the process and i love it

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
i’ve had a few family members support me from time to time but i never really had any help or support. when i was younger i would watch interviews from different artists and i would listen to these stories explaining why they fell off or the importance of knowing the music industry before you try it. they would explain how artists wouldn’t be able to release music due to major labels and being shelved. i still watch them to this day every single day because the industry and is forever changing so i must be willing to forever listen, you know?
