Meet Alexandra Ryoo of Miso Fotography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra Ryoo.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Alexandra. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always had love for the creative in me, favorite subject was art since grade school. In college, I took a small film course, but ultimately thought I’d be working in advertising. I graduated with advertising with a minor in fine arts.

Fast forward a few years later, I got married and lived in South Korea for a few years and this is where I would get my first taste in the photography world. In Korea, there are photo studios sprinkled on every other block. I was fascinated at the style and trend of it. Needless to say I wanted to know anything and everything about it! After my first born, I purchased my first camera and practiced day in and day out on personal projects, stalking just about every photo forum there was that related to photography. During my first years, I did lots of complementary work to gain more knowledge and confidence in hopes to create a business one day, where I could actually make a living with my passion.

I am now into my sixth year as a full-time photographer and a stay at home mother to my two boys. I now have a studio to call my own which is insane! I have tried lots of different types of photography, but my heart lies, in people, especially newborns. I am now a newborn, maternity, and family photographer in Missouri City, TX serving the greater Houston area. It has been a long road of blood sweat and tears that I have poured into my business and I continue to evolve as a photographer always trying to better my skills and technique.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
With any business, there is no smooth. For me, there has been countless highs and lows and I continue to have those highs and lows, maybe not as much as in the beginning. I would say one thing most beginner photographers struggle with is ‘how much to I charge’ or ‘whats my style’ or ‘how come I’m not booking’. I could go on forever with all the struggles I went through. Bad news is those struggles don’t end, good news is you will learn and overcome these struggles and become so much more.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am the proud owner of Miso Fotography and I specialize in newborn, maternity, and family photography and I am proud of how far I have come! I literally started this business from nothing. I had no idea what Photoshop was, no idea what a full frame camera did, and I wanted to know….oh how I wanted to know everything. When you have that much hunger and passion for something you do leaps and bounds for that knowledge.

There are many newborn photographers or just photographers in general, I’d like to say what sets me apart is me. I can say each new client that walks through my door and decides to work with me walks out a friend and becomes apart of the Misofoto family. It is so important to me to have chemistry with my clients. I am a social butterfly by nature and I love meeting my clients for the first time to hear their stories and expectations as we start out journey together.

What were you like growing up?
I am one of three, and I am the oldest. I was very much a rule follower growing up. I am a social butterfly and love meeting people. I love being a mom and spending time with my boys and family. I have been told my friends that I am extra hah, but I’ll take that as a compliment!
