Latrice, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Our Matriarch, Dorothy Mae Harris (April 24, 1931 – February 15, 2012), was the cook of the family.
Everyone knew her as Big Mama or Mrs. Dot. The memories of laughter and lots of fun at Sunday dinners around the dining room table, still flash in our memory like yesterday. It didn’t matter who came to dinner unexpectedly, the food she prepared always stretched to serve everyone a good home cooked meal.
There was always something sweet for everyone to enjoy, and everything was always prepared with Love!!
Today, we continue her legacy with…. Dot’s Catering!!
Our slogan is “Food for the Soul, prepared with Love”!! She taught us the power of serving with Love, for that’s where our Blessings come from.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We can honestly say it has been a smooth road for us. As a family, we have always stayed together. As my grandmother was preparing to die, we were all by her bedside. One of things that she told us to do, and that was to always stay together. That has made this road for us easy. Do we always agree on everything, no. However, remembering the strong legacy that was left for us to carry on, we come together and reach common ground so that we can keep moving forward.
Dot’s Catering – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Our business is a catering business. We cater events in Houston and the surrounding Metroplex areas. (Galveston, Baytown, Conroe, Magnolia, etc…). We are highly known for our Blackened Catfish, Crawfish Etouffee and Soul Food. Oxtails are slow cooked to perfection, and the best you’ll ever have. Our crawfish etouffee is cooked with a variety of Cajun seasonings that give you that New Orleans feel.
We are most proud of our investment of honesty and commitment to our clients. When we cater, we put our heart and soul into all that we do. Most notably, we cook with Love, and you can actually taste the love when you eat our food. Our slogan is derived from this….”Food for the Soul, prepared with Love”.
What sets us apart is our top-notch service. We give all of our clients and their guests our full attention and service without reserve. We work to help make your event a most enjoyable one.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Our most proudest moment was winning the 2018 Couples Choice Award. We worked very hard during 2017 by catering several wedding events. We catered some AMAZING couples; that made us proud to know that we’re leaving a mark of great service and good food. Also knowing that we’re making my Big Mama smile. That’s a good feeling to know she’s smiling down on us, and giving us her full seal of approval. Why? Because we ALWAYS treat people right and serve DELICIOUS food every time.
