Rising Stars: Meet Sonja Fuqua of Dickinson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sonja Fuqua

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
After becoming an empty nester my husband Mike asked me what I wanted to do. That was a load question and I gave him an eye popping answer. A faith based music venue coffee shop. A year later, shortly after the pandemic it came to life! We found an amazing coffee roaster that we prayed for daily and we opened in 2021. We love on the community while giving a safe family friendly space with a stage to perform and a play area for kids to play while parents catch up with their friends, work or studies. We became popular with our family friendly atmosphere serving our amazing Texas Pecan roast and delicious waffles on a stick. It started as a hobby and continues as my mission to make an impact on the community.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Entrepreneurship is never a smooth road, but it’s what you make of it along the ride!
The biggest obstacle is customers that are wanting quick drive thrus for their coffee fix.
We are a relationship coffee shop and we pride ourself in that.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We strive ourself in customer service and the relationships that we build with everyone that walks through Ugly Mugz door. We want to be a part of their lives and help them along the way.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We do not spend money on advertising. We use social media to connect and word of mouth to spread the good news about what we stand for strongly.
