Today we’d like to introduce you to Jodee Bleu
Hi Jodee, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Who is Jodee Bleu ? That’s a question that’s seems so complex but is fairly simple. I am Texas. Texas raised me from Houston to Crockett to the DFW metroplex. I began entertaining at six years young, when my aunt Brenda placed me in the black history program to recite “Still I Rise” by Mya Angelou. That was my first taste of stage fright. I still remember how every year my family would join and sing Christmas carols to the elderly at the nursing home. That’s how I actually learn to sing. I was that student that would turn every project into a rap. My teachers saw my creativity and persuaded me to MC the pep rally’s. Before I left for college I dropped my first recorded single. Once I met a producer in Arlington, I stayed in the studio more than class. When I move back to Houston, I was more confident than ever. I got with some local talent and started pursuing my dream as an artist.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing we fight for is easy I can say that I’ve been through a lot trying to pursue music. As an independent artist, I believe your main struggle is financing and just putting your money in the correct people hands that can elevate your career. There is a lot of talent in Houston. There’s also a lot of people that are building platforms for the artist in the city and not all of them have the best intentions. Besides finances, I believe an artist team can also make them or break them so choose wisely.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
When I’m asked, what do I do? I always respond the same. I positivity affect people I believe as a creator there’s no winning or losing. Just influence. i’m mostly proud of the reaction from the people who love what I do. I would say I’m set apart because I know how to be vulnerable and die empty.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love Houston. It’s lit. It’s home. It’s the Mecca. It is diverse and the underground scene is like no other. It’s art. But it also can be complacent at times.
