Life & Work with Moe Monroe of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Moe Monroe.

Moe, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started sewing at the curious age of 12 making Barbie clothes with the teachings of my late grandmother Geraldine Edwards. With age came the interests of making my own clothing. After graduating I briefly attended The Art Institute of Houston pursuing a Fashion degree. In 2017, I officially launched Moe Monroe Co. Since then Moe Monroe Co. has been debuted all over the city of Houston. Since 2023 Moe Monroe Co. has jetted the runways of Atlanta,New York, and Los Angeles Fashion Week. In the fall of 2025, Moe Monroe Co. will be making its second debut in NYFW with WEAR Models.—“I am beyond thrilled to share everything I have been working on. I’m literally booked up for the remaining half of the year excluding July-August. I couldn’t be more thankful!”

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all!! Throughout the years I’ve dealt with many bumps in the road, at one point of the year I was staying in my car and unemployed. I wasn’t getting orders and I became heavily depressed due to my circumstances through the support of friends and family I was able to start the healing process. No more depression, just progress. I’m now working 2 jobs and sewing full time to make ends meet. I’ve worked so hard this year, I feel so proud of the resilience I’ve had during the past few months. Fashion is my identity and I can’t quit on myself when things get tough. I thank God for my journey this is apart of my story.

I’ve dealt with doubters and unsupportive individuals. Some think that being a designer isn’t a sufficient “job”. But I am a firm believer that my hard work and consistency will not be in vain. While I’m not here to prove anything I do know that timing is everything and just because it doesn’t work or happen instantly, doesn’t mean it never will God is simply saying “not right now”.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?

How do you think about happiness?
Fashion, for me, has always been more than fabric or trend — it’s been my sanctuary, my language, and at times, my lifeline. In the quietest moments of grief and loss, when words failed and the world felt heavy, fashion gave me a way to speak without speaking. It became a space where I could process pain, transform it, and rebuild myself thread by thread.

Every stitch tells a story — of survival, of heartbreak, of healing. Creating allows me to turn sorrow into strength, absence into presence, and moments of darkness into bold, visible beauty. It’s in those moments of creation that I feel most alive, most connected to who I am and who I’m becoming.

Fashion is where I found my rebirth. It’s where I found *me* again.
