Story & Lesson Highlights with Brittany Tottenham of Meyerland

We recently had the chance to connect with Brittany Tottenham and have shared our conversation below.

Brittany, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me right now usually starts pretty early, balancing being a mom and running my business. In the mornings, I get my kids ready and settled, then I shift into salon work, planning, or creating content for my hair brand. I’ve also been focused on my health, so I fit in workouts or meal prep during the day when I can. Evenings are usually family time, but I also use them to catch up on business tasks, studying my Bible, or reflecting. Honestly, every day feels full, but I’m learning how to structure my time so I can stay balanced between my goals, my kids, and myself.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Brittany, and I’m the owner of Be Next Beauty Bar. I’m passionate about creating a space where beauty professionals and clients feel truly supported and inspired. My salon specializes in all-natural hair care, braiding, extensions, coloring, and cutting blending healthy hair practices with styles that help clients feel confident and beautiful. What makes us unique is that we’re more than just a salon we’re building a community. Alongside services, I’ve developed my own line of all-natural hair growth and scalp healing products, as well as motivational apparel under the Be Next brand. For me, it’s about encouraging people to step into their ‘next’ whether that’s in beauty, business, or personal growth. Right now, I’m working on expanding my salon into a space that not only provides top-tier beauty services but also gives professionals opportunities to grow, teach, and collaborate. My journey has been about turning challenges into purpose, and I’m excited to keep creating spaces and products that reflect that mission.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?

“I was just a girl who loved playing softball growing up — very much a tomboy who didn’t care about my hair, stayed dirty on the field, and rough-played with the boys. I never imagined that those moments would lead me to where I am today. Becoming a big sister shaped me in new ways, and after my dad passed, I found myself trying to figure out life at a very young age. That journey of loss, growth, and resilience opened the door to a new life of expressing myself through beauty, creativity, and building something bigger than me. It taught me that even from the roughest beginnings, purpose can grow.”

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, after I had COVID right after giving birth to my daughter in 2020, I was very discouraged and scared. I fell into depression, was diagnosed with anxiety, and honestly felt like I was at the end of myself. What I thought was the closing of a chapter actually became the beginning of something much bigger. That season forced me to rebuild, find my strength again, and step into the purpose I was called to walk in.”

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say what really matters to me is my family, my faith, and my purpose. They know I care deeply about being a good mom and creating a better future for my kids. They’d also say I’m passionate about building something meaningful through my salon and brand, not just for myself but to inspire others. At the core, they know I value love, growth, and living with intention

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
If I knew I had 10 years left, I would stop wasting time on things and people that drain my energy or don’t align with my purpose. I’d let go of overthinking, unnecessary stress, and trying to please everyone. I’d focus fully on my family, my business, my faith, and the things that truly bring me joy and fulfillment.
