Doneisha, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I’m being called to embrace the very path that once intimidated me—completing my nursing degree. After failing out of nursing school 20 years ago, I let fear and self-doubt stop me from pursuing my dream. Today, I’m nine months away from finishing my BSN, and I see that setback as part of the foundation that built my resilience. This opportunity represents not just a second chance, but a commitment to growth, perseverance, and serving others with the compassion and strength I’ve gained along the way.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Doneisha Scott, and I’m the founder of Artistry By iCandy, a beauty brand dedicated to helping women feel confident and embrace their natural beauty. I specialize in ombré brows, henna tint, brow lamination, and permanent makeup. What makes my brand special is that it’s more than just beauty services—it’s about transformation. Brows frame the face, but confidence frames your life, and I love being part of that journey for my clients. My story is also unique because alongside running my brand, I’m just months away from completing my BSN in nursing. My passion for beauty and my heart for service come together in everything I do, making Artistry By iCandy not just a business, but a reflection of resilience, empowerment, and care.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that has most shaped how I see myself is being a mother to my two children. Motherhood has pushed me to grow in ways I never imagined—it’s taught me patience, resilience, and unconditional love. My children inspire me daily to be the best version of myself, and they remind me of the importance of leading by example. Through them, I’ve learned that I am stronger than I thought, braver than I believed, and capable of creating a legacy that goes beyond me.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
The kindest thing I would say to my younger self is: “Don’t underestimate yourself—your potential is bigger than your fears.” At that time, I gave up because I lacked the confidence to see beyond failure and I allowed self-doubt to convince me I wasn’t capable. Looking back, I now understand that every challenge was preparing me for the strength and perseverance I carry today. I would remind my younger self that believing in yourself is the foundation for every success to come.

I truly admire my brow mentor , Zuri Dale, because of her character. She leads with integrity, generosity, and a sincere commitment to helping others grow. She doesn’t just teach technique—she models resilience, professionalism, and passion for the beauty industry. Her mentorship has shaped how I see myself as an artist and entrepreneur, and I admire the way she balances expertise with compassion.

What people may most misunderstand about my legacy is assuming that my upbringing defined my success. Yes, I grew up spoiled, but my business was not given to me—I built it on my own, from the ground up, with no handouts. Every client, every skill, every milestone came through my own effort, dedication, and vision. My legacy will reflect that success isn’t about what you’re given, but about what you’re willing to create, even when it means starting from nothing.
