Story & Lesson Highlights with Joanna Suazo

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Joanna Suazo. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Joanna, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
After years of uncertainty (on various occasions…) and hustle, I’m no longer just wandering – I’m walking my path with purpose. As a mobile bartender business owner, every cocktail I craft, every event I serve is a step forward on a journey I’ve claimed as my own. What once felt like guessing in the dark has become a deliberate pursuit, guided by clarity, passion, and hard-won experience.

I’m building more than a brand – I’m cultivating a presence, mastering the art of connection, and proving that success doesn’t come from standing still. I’m not waiting for opportunities; rather I’m driving to them, mixing ambition with every pour.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Bienvenidos!

My name is Joanna, the owner and founder of Its JoJo, LLC.

At Its JoJo, our mobile bartending service isn’t just about mixing drinks – it’s about creating unforgettable experiences that reflect the energy, style, and soul of each event. Proudly serving the Houston and surrounding areas, we are a mobile bartending brand that turns ordinary moments into extraordinary memories. With focus to detail such as specialty cocktails and themed bar setups, every detail is intentional, every pour is crafted, and every event is elevated.

What sets Its JoJo apart isn’t just what we serve, its how we serve it. Whether it’s a small wedding, a corporate mixer, or backyard celebration full of flavor and fun, we will bring not only a fully equipped bar, but also a curated vibe and a warm, professional presence that guests remember long after the last toast. It’s very important to me to blend creativity with precision, offer custom menus, signature drinks, and stylish setups that match your theme and elevate the experience.

But this is just the beginning. I am building Its JoJo, LLC into more than just a service – it’s a movement rooted in craftsmanship, empowerment, and excellence. I’m working toward growing a trusted, recognizable brand in the Houston event space – expanding into a team of top-tier bartenders, launching multiple bar units, and eventually offering full-service event support. My vision is clear: to become the name people think of when they want a bar that goes beyond the basics and delivers a truly curated experience.

This is my lane. This is my passion. I’m not just chasing success – I’m building a legacy, one signature cocktail at a time.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
Becoming a mother to my son has been the most powerful transformation of my life and has been the foundation of everything I do – and the reason I pursue my dreams with such determination. He has taught me more about strength, patience, and purpose than I ever imagined. In his eyes, I see the reflection of the woman I strive to be – not just for him, but for myself. His curiosity reminds me to stay open, his laughter reminds me to find joy even in the chaos, and his trust in me reminds me that I am capable of building something lasting.

He doesn’t care about titles or success – he just sees me. And in showing up for him every day, I’ve learned to show up for myself with that same love and commitment. He’s not just my why – he’s my mirror, my motivation, and the reminder that I am already enough, even as I keep growing.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Genuinely, there was a quiet night where I seriously thought about walking away from it all. Being a woman in business already came with a thousand invisible weights, but being a single mom trying to build something from the ground up felt like I was carrying the world on my shoulders.

I’d just finished an event that drained me emotionally and physically, only to come home to a sink full of dishes, a sleeping kiddo who I barely had time to say good night to, a pile of dirty clothes, and carrying a tip jar that didn’t reflect how hard I was working. I remember sitting on the floor in silence, questioning everything: Is this worth it? Am I being selfish for chasing a dream when my son needs stability? Am I enough to do this alone? I felt overwhelmed, unsupported, and invisible. In that moment, I didn’t just doubt my business, I doubted myself. I wanted to give up because it felt like I was choosing between survival and success, motherhood and ambition.

But even in the tears and exhaustion, a voice in me whispered, “you’re built for more than just surviving” and that whisper eventually became the voice that pulled me back into the fight for myself, for my son and for the future I refuse to let go of.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
If you asked my closest friends what really matters to me, they’d probably say: authenticity, purpose, and people. They’d tell you I care deeply about doing things with intention – not just going through the motions, but actually making an impact. They’d say I value real connections, showing up for others, and staying grounded in who I am, even when things get hard. I’m driven, yes – but not just by success. I want what I build to mean something, to reflect my values, and to leave a mark. They’d also say I don’t just talk about loyalty, resilience, and love – I live them. Whether it’s in motherhood, business, or friendship, what matters to me most is show up with heart, no matter what.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Absolutely…!

I’ve learned to give my best even when no one’s watching, even when the room is silent and the applause never comes. In everything I do, whether it’s crafting the perfect cocktail or setting up themed bar setup – I pour my heart out. Not because I expect praise, but rather I hold myself to a standard that’s rooted in pride, purpose, and integrity. I’ve wiped down bars after long nights, driven home in silence after events, and kept showing up even when it felt like no one saw the effort behind the scenes. But that’s the part I’ve come to value most – the quiet excellence, the unspoken commitment, the discipline to keep giving my all regardless of recognition. Because at the end of the day, I know what I bring to the table. And that’s more than enough.
