Hi Melica , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: Who are you learning from right now?
I’m currently attending a one-week photography clinic.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hola! My name is Melica (Mel-like-ka), but they call me Melikes! Jesus saved my life! Once a club DJ / promoter in Miami, FL, but now a minstrel and instrument for Jesus in many capacities. I was born on the island of St. Maarten. My island people, whaz di scene? I grew up in Miami and then relocated to Boston, MA, to attend Berklee College of Music. It was then that the transformation began: Saul into Paul; Soca Diva into Melikes (that’s a story for another time). By the way, I now emcee weddings and deejay gospel events. Don’t press play too secular music! Hit me up for some AfrobeatGospel recommendations.
Led by the Lord, I started my business, Musicianary Promotions, which has recently been reregistered in the state of Massachusetts as Musicianary. I believe the Lord wants to expand us, so we had to make room and the necessary adjustments. Under Musicianary, one of its assignments is to host prophetic worship nights instructed by The Lord. So you’ll witness that the title of the worship nights are first off birthed from prayer, prophetic, and inspired by The Holy Spirit. By The Grace of God, we started back in 2017 and have released a SOUND in Boston, Atlanta, Ghana, and Miami, and will continue to do more as the Lord leads. We also do street promotions for events happening within the city. Musicianary currently has a roster of two Spirit-Filled minstrels who we manage and/or do booking for. In addition, we do road and tour management and we assist in artist visa applications.
The Lord has given us a few assignments; one of the things is to relaunch my Christian Clothing apparel and, in the future, release His SOUND in the Caribbean and a few other countries. And a whole lot more that will eventually unfold.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
The moment that shaped how I see the world is when I saw my mother’s death with my two eyes. The whole moment was a movie that brought me nearer to Jesus, that changed my way of thinking. The pain of her loss fuels me at times, and also gets me in a bubble. Most of the time when I encounter people who knew my late mom, they would say your mom did this for me, she was the one who helped me with this, or your mom opened her home to me when I moved to America. So now, I have a thing where I am always asking myself, am I making an impact on people’s lives?
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
The defining wound of my life was the death of my mother, as I mentioned earlier. I am still healing; it’s a process, but I am definitely not where I used to be. The Lord has done and is continuing to do His work. I am grateful for the men and women He has brought into my circle, who are doing their part to help.

Hands down, The Holy Spirit! He’s the Creator, I’m just a vessel through which he reveals His art. As mentioned earlier, all of my worship night names, clothing brand collections, and assignments are instructed and inspired by Him. They were born from my personal prayer times.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I served and impacted my generation by the Will of God. That everyone who interacted with me encountered The God in me. That all her talents pointed men to Jesus.
