We’re looking forward to introducing you to Rachael Jacques. Check out our conversation below.
Rachael, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me is basically a typical mom of 4 but also business woman in between! I run my full styling business while also being a stay at home mother.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Rachael Jacques, I’m a fashion stylist and creative director! Fashion is more than clothes for my brand. When I style my clients I want to begat a certain emotion that not only pleases the eyes, but feeds the soul. My styling journey started at the tender age of 8 years old when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. While the whole city was in full chaos, I was in my bedroom putting together my outfits to evacuate..not leaving out any details. Today, at the age of 30, it’s crazy to think I’ve made my dreams come true. I still have the same ambition I did as a little girl, every single time I still a new client’s wardrobe. I style from a place of love….that and all the above sets me apart from most if not all stylists in the industry.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
My whole life I knew who I wanted to be. However the world/society/loved ones always told me I had to be realistic. For a long time my dreams of styling had to be dimmed. I couldn’t fully commit to something that everyone made seem so unsubstantial. Until one day I realized it’s a gimmick. People can only push you to their perception of the world. In other words…how can someone push you to believe In something when they already have their own limitations on what they can achieve. It wasn’t until I had my own children that I realized I had to finally go after what I really wanted. I couldn’t live with myself knowing I had kids and not teaching them to follow their hearts and the passion that inside of it…whatever that may be. You succeed in what you want to be once you realize you don’t have to be what the world tells you you have to be.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, when I first started my styling business I had no idea what I was doing and was still going through a mentally health crisis at the time: what got me through it was my true love for fashion. When I didn’t know how I was going to make it another day, my passion kept my alive. I’m over 1 year in recovery now and if it wasn’t for my passion for fashion I probably wouldn’t be here today. It got my through THE darkest time in my life.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Years ago I used to think I had to be this cookie cutter perfect version of myself online so that people would like me and accept me. It wasn’t until years of doing content creation that I realized my testimonies and flaws were the real motivation. What I go through behind the scenes daily is what really inspires and touches hearts. Once I started being real with myself and showing that on camera things got a lot better for me and actually helped with my brand’s engagement online. People want raw and authentic not perfect and polished!
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop being so hard on myself. I want things to always be perfect and to go a certain way. Sometimes life is so much better when you let go and realize everything happens for a reason….you never have to force the realness. Mistakes are the lessons we take with us tomorrow
