We recently had the chance to connect with Natasha Frazier and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Natasha, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Typically, I hit the snooze button, minimum three times. Afterward, I work out between 45 min to an hour. Then, it’s a mad dash to shower, grab my essentials, and leave the house for work.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am an inspirational romance/romantic suspense author. I publish my works under my own imprint, Encouraging Works. On September 9, I will release my 20th book, Love Between the Pages. Aside from writing, I teach Les Mills Bodypump classes three times per week. Full-time, I work as an analyst for the federal government.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
One day in third grade, my teacher gave me a small sheet of paper, told me not to open it, and sent me to another teacher’s classroom to give it to her. As an eight-year-old, what did I do? I opened it. Not only did I not follow directions, I had to pretend like I didn’t do it.
Inside, the note read, Highest overall average with my name. I was so excited. But of course, I couldn’t return to the class pumped up. It took everything in me to maintain a straight face for the remainder of the afternoon. I often wonder if she knew I’d read the note. However, it was at that moment in my life that I knew and believed I was capable of anything. That moment shaped me as a student, because from that point on, all I wanted to do was get the trophy again. (The student with the highest average received a trophy at the end of the year awards program) And I did.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You don’t have to rush through life. Take your time.
As a teenager, my mom would often share this sentiment with me. In college, I had a professor who would often tell me and a friend the same thing. But did I listen? No! Much of my life, I have been powering through tasks because I couldn’t wait to get to the other side. I had to hurry up and finish college because I wanted to start my career. Check.
Buy a house. Check.
Get married. Check.
Have kids. Check.
Start my writing career. Check.
Write more books.
And so on and so on.
With there being so many things that I want to accomplish, I’ve always felt like I needed to “hurry up.” But there is no time limit or deadline, other than those self-imposed. I’m finally starting to learn and embrace the idea of taking things slower. This is a concept that I wish I’d embraced earlier in life.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Myself.
I am the project that I’m committed to. My spiritual journey. My emotional journey. My fitness journey. My careers. I am the only person who can continue to work on me so that I can evolve into the best version of myself for me and my family.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I work full-time in the federal government. I wouldn’t say I was “born to do it” or even “told to do it.” It is the career that I studied for in college and that pays the bills.
I also teach fitness classes and write inspirational romance/romantic suspense novels. I can say with certainty that I am in my element when doing both of those things. If I weren’t paid to do either, I’d still do them, because I enjoy them and believe that I am adding value to someone else’s life. Teaching bodypump classes and writing (not at the same time, of course 🙂 ) gives me a level of joy and contentment that I do not find anywhere else. I am blessed to have the capacity to do both.
