Marcus Freeman shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Marcus, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity is most important to me. Integrity is having honesty, principles and character. Today the entertainment business is vast and challenging. Providing services along with trust and value differentiates you from others. It’s what makes you, you.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Marcus Freeman, I’m an actor, director, writer, and producer. I began my journey as an actor at the age of eight. For the last ten years, I discovered my love for photography and videography where now I provide services to entrepreneurs, actors, singers and businesses for promotional photos and videos. Acting of course is still my first love.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My mom and family taught me most about work. My grandfather was a sharecropper and my grandmother was a domestic. Work that requires determination and sweat. My mom taught me to me that if you want something you have to work for it. My aunts and uncles taught me to educate your self and utilise the gifts that God has given.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering has taught me to reimagine myself. I used to let my past define me until my Life Coach told me these words: “Let go of what’s holding you.” Holding on to the past was causing me unnecessary suffrage. The past is already defined but the right now, the present is where I can change or pivot. This lesson has improved not only my personal life but my business as well.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
The entertainment business has changed and is changing every day. What worked last week may not translate today. Social media trends and hacks are driven by ads and influencers which makes it hard to keep up. The best thing to do is stay true to yourself and your brand. People will return to brands that are reliable and trustworthy. Though going viral is admirable it won’t sustain you. Your foundation is what will keep you afloat no matter the fad or shift.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I center God. I’ve learned to sit with God more especially during these times. I pray everyday to God to give me clarity. I read His word and meditate on it. This keeps me focus. Additionally I’m learning to listen more and talk less. I sit with family and listen to their words full wisdom and love.
