We’re looking forward to introducing you to Wendell Bertrand . Check out our conversation below.
Wendell, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day consists of my cup of coffee, followed by my morning workout while listening to personal development audio to start day with a clear mind and positive attitude towards everything.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Wendell and I’m the photographer behind Top Optics Photography. I’ve been doing photography for around 8 years now. Started off just as a hobby and a way to tap back into things I enjoyed doing as a kid that brought me joy, which was capturing all of the memorable moments going on around me. Eventually with consistency and practice it turned into a passion side business. I specialize in portrait photography. Also offer services for small private events, product promos, real estate image portfolios, and more.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was a kid that enjoyed anything to do with creativity. From using disposable cameras all the time capturing all of life’s memories. To sketching and being into all things art. I always knew I found joy in creating anything and knew that one day I’d be doing something having to do with the arts but never knew what it would actually be until I went through all life’s experiences and was pinpointed to photography as an outlet.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There’s been plenty of times I’ve almost threw in the towel and gave up. Sometimes you need mental breaks though, it’s healthy. Life will never go your way 100% of the time. The moment you learn that you’re put through tests and trials to see if you’re prepared for the next level, you will give yourself grace in those weak moments when things just don’t seem to be working in your favor. There’s 2 options, sit in it and give up and stay where you’re at. Or go through the challenge and pass the test you’re being put through to learn from it and move forward to what’s next for you.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
They would say joy and a peace of mind. Anything that disrupts your peace of mind disturbs your joy.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
I feel the most at peace when I’m alone and have my me time. I get to sit with my thoughts and creative ideas which bring me joy. I also sometimes just get to relax and be at peace without any outside noise.
