Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Casey Nwachukwu of Richmond

Casey Nwachukwu shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Casey, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
– Something that has brought me joy outside of work is spending time with my loved ones. As the days go by, I appreciate hanging out and cheering on those that mean the world to me: my family members and friends.

– There is a level of peace and excitement that I get every time that I am around these individuals. Without them, I would not know where I would be at.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
– My name is Casey Nwachukwu, a motivational speaker. I am the creator of “Casey’s Motivation Mondays”. This journey took off in 2018 during my time at the University of Houston.

– On this platform, I interview creative individuals on their unique hobbies. Topics that have been discussed on “Casey’s Motivation Mondays” include unlocking gifts within yourself, not comparing yourself to others, confidence, highlighting my loved ones and disabilities.

– What makes this platform unique is that I allow my guests the opportunity to showcase their gifts live on camera. For example, Chukwudi, my best friend since our freshmen year of high school who is a pianist, performed a song on his piano.

– This platform has given me the space to be myself. I am someone who has a good mix of energy, goofiness, and optimism. Anytime I brainstorm ideas, plan out and record content or edit videos, I keep those characteristics in mind, paving the way for me to feel joyful.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
– The person who has taught me the most about hard work is my Dad.

– My father graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with his Masters degree in Accounting. During his tenure there, he obtained all A’s and one B. At a young age, he instilled within my three brothers and I the importance of getting good grades and working hard. Consequently, those tips have been used in all areas of my life.

– I do not know where I would be at in life if it was not for my Dad’s presence. I am truly grateful to have him in my life.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
– Taking temporary losses have taught me to appreciate the permanent wins. When life is going good, do not take those moments for granted.

– Temporary losses have exposed me to areas that need improvement. Whenever I am winning, there can be moments where it feels as if changes may not need to be made. However, whenever a loss occurs, those instances alert me that changes are required. That hurt feeling only fuels me to become better.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
What my closest friends would say means the world to me is seeing them win. I enjoy being a big-time cheerleader to my people. Cheering them on within their journey –including the ups and downs– inspires me to want to take my game to a whole another level.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel the most at peace when I slow down time. When life is moving too fast, I can’t fully appreciate what is around me; this includes my loved ones and the weather. Having God by my side gives me the opportunity to slow down time.
