We recently had the chance to connect with Jasmine Harris and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine , thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Having that one on one time with my parents. Watching my parents age is intriguing, beautiful and humbling all at once. I’m enjoying the wisdom in the simple statements they randomly make and spending more time with them is healing wounds I didn’t know existed.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
A vase artist from Houston, Tx who draws inspiration from global travels, fashion, architecture, and expressive thought. The Pearl Center (powered by The Pretty Perfectionist) is a testament to the fact that beauty and inspiration can be found in our stories, our struggles, and our triumphs. Specializing in freeform hand placed pearls that deliver dedication, simplicity and elegance.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
After flying for a major airline domestically and internationally for 9 years it has reshaped my frame of thinking and social interaction. The moment I knew it was time to hang up my wings was an act of resilience! I proved to myself that I had wings of my own outside of my flight career.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Before The Pearl Center I launched a former business during covid that still surprises me how well it did in the beginning. After getting social traction and scoring the attention of 2 major retailers I was confident that my brand would take-off and unfortunately it did not. After all the time and money invested I became discouraged and slightly depressed. But it isn’t in me to quit so I carried on with life and that’s when I stepped into a new venture and it birthed my present artistry today.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That you need to know EVERYTHING, false! I’ve learned that some mistakes are only a gateway to success.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
Creative blocks. Sometimes my brain just stops. It’s normal. In the words of my mother “There’s grace in the pace.” Learning to be gentle on yourself when there’s nothing to produce. Inspiration comes and goes, it’s life.
