Shayna Wright shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Shayna, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Spending quality time with my husband! Our work schedules are so busy sometimes we only see each one or the other as we’re getting ready for bed! Now that we have some kind of system going we make sure to dedicate time being underneath each other to just talk. Another thing that’s bringing me joy outside of work is working on a wellness venture! The power of pause! This journey is encouraging adults to focus on all things self-care and wellness. While the mission of this journey promotes rooting in rest while rising in purpose.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Shayna Wright and I’m a full-time school counselor while also being an entrepreneur. As an entrepreneur; I own The Wright Vision (sister company to Virtual Visions) where I still create custom cakes, sweet stations, and bartending services. Now my husband and I added a laser engraving service and outsource preferred event vendors to clients and as an added resources to other businesses in the event industry. I’m also in the works of partnering with I Am Wellness, LLC in providing adults all things self-care and wellness by hosting wellness activities throughout the greater Houston area and wellness retreats across the globe!
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Relationships are held together by trust, empathy, and mutual effort — when those start to fray, the bond often follows. What breaks the bond between people include: betrayal of trust, lacking communication, selfishness, and having unresolved conflict. Bonds break when we stop seeing and valuing each other. What can restore the bond can be making quality time with that person. In addition to , taking accountability, showing empathy, being honest, sharing experiences. Bonds can mend when we choose to see, value, and show up again.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Of course, actually just recently in dealing with entrepreneurship! It’s a lot, feeling defeated with posting and not getting the views and likes that I want, keep comparing myself to others, thinking why am I going through all this when I already have a full-time job that’s consistent financially. What keeps me going though is every time I feel I want to just let it go; I get a referral from someone who wants to book me! So just because I don’t see it or feel there’s always someone watching!
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is DEFINITELY the real me. If you see me throughout Houston you won’t see me all dolled up! I love my sneakers, hats, and sportswear! The only time I’m dressed up is a special occasion and lately that’s been very rare! My designer is not Louis Vuitton or Gucci it’s Nike and I will carry a backpack before I carrying around a purse on an average day lol. I don’t have a social media persona where I have to look one way for views. What you see from me is what you’ll always get!
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
Paying off student loans! I mean really has it paid off for anybody?
