We’re looking forward to introducing you to Darnell HTX. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Darnell, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Boarding a plane, landing in a location I’ve never been before, planning and booking the next 6 months, strategizing how to become more profitable with less risks.
Ensuring the people who have entrusted their time to my vision are equipped for success, safe and happy with their position.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Darnell. I am a multi-artist and the owner of Broadcast Houston LLC. I also record music under the artist name Darnell HTX.
BH is a media production company where several projects are curated. The most notable projects are the Broadcast Houston & Broadcast Houston (Culture) YouTube channels.
I am responsible for many more projects including the Houston Hip Hop 50 Concert & Broadcast Houston Awards.
I am a Houston-native and a graduate of The Prairie View A&M University.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
A creative. As long as I can remember I would lock myself in a room and make music all day. I would use my free time I’m school and write poetry/lyrics.
The visuals came later, but music and words have always been my outlet. Listening was never enough; I’ve always wanted to create.
My mindset is creating something is the closest to God we can ever get. To take something that’s in your mind and make a physical representation of it in the earth where others can hear, see, feel, smell, touch is the highest form of praise we can give The Creator. We were out here to be a reflection of him and to ourselves be Creators.
So let’s all create.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Several times. Loss of jobs, businesses, people, loved ones, money, failed projects all have contributed to times In almost gave up.
Each time there was something inside me that wanted to prove the failure wrong.
I am a competitor and I hate to lose. I refuse to lose to failure or mistakes.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
Everyone is not a millionaire. Whether that definition is making a million per year, having a million in the bank, being “worth” a million.
The younger generation follows individuals based on their proximity to being rich; even if someone they know is not rich has access to rich people
It’s those that chase status that are keeping some people’s lights on just because they convinced them they have a higher status than them. When in reality they’re just making bills like them.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
Cutting of people that disrespect me and my household.
Fighting for what’s right.
Being patient when I could have went to war.
Loving and accepting love.
Spending money in experiences, not things.
