Jessica Rotella shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Jessica, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Thanks to Joico, I had the incredible opportunity to enjoy a 3-day, all-expenses-paid getaway in Dallas for the Behindthechair show this year!
I’m still pinching myself—it was an incredible experience filled with networking, education, and inspiration from leading stylists, salon owners, and some of the industry’s top educators.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
First off, thank you for being here! If you’ve landed on my site, chances are you’re searching for a stylist who’s not only skilled in modern color techniques, but also fun to hang out with—and I’m beyond excited for the chance to be that stylist for you.
I’m Jessica Rotella—stylist, salon owner, and total boss babe. I thrive on good coffee, great conversations, and creating gorgeous hair. My specialties include hair extensions, balayage, blonding, and lived-in color, but I also have a soft spot for traditional color, foiling, and bold vivids.
My passion for hair shines through in every service I provide. I love learning, growing, and sharing the latest techniques with my guests. This industry is constantly evolving, and I’d be honored to bring that creativity and knowledge to your next look.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I believe integrity is everything—in relationships, in business, and especially behind the chair. For me, being real with people and treating them with respect is the foundation of trust. Treating others the way I’d want to be treated isn’t just the golden rule—it’s the only way I know how to show up.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There was a time I almost gave up on doing hair. When my dad passed away, I was faced with how short life really is—and how much time I had already missed in the salon. At that stage in life, financial security had pushed me into working full-time as a project administrator while doing hair only on the side. My passion was slipping further and further into the background. His passing was the wake-up call I needed. It reminded me that happiness matters, and it gave me the push to open my salon and finally go all in, full time, on the career I truly love.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest myths in our industry is that you can’t be successful without double booking or running yourself into the ground. True success comes from specializing in the services that bring you joy and align with the life you want to create. Pair that with continuous education so you can not only attract, but also retain your dream guests. When you can confidently deliver the modern looks clients want, you can thrive—without burning yourself out.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What will you regret not doing?
I regret the moments I was too afraid to try.
I’ve learned that the things that scare me most are usually the ones most worth doing. Growth rarely happens inside our comfort zone.
