Carlos, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a musician & audiovisual producer from city of Punto Fijo, Venezuela, the taste for music and art is something that has been in my life from an early age, however, I went to the university “Rafael Urdaneta (URU) in Maracaibo for 4 years to obtain my degree in accountant. , at that time I was part of a musical project called “Para Llevar” with David Montiel, Jesús Portillo and Carlos Luis Rodríguez, I had the opportunity to tour in Venezuela, Argentina with them for a long time, At the end of 2011 I joined forces with the woman who is currently my wife “Andrea Pérez”. We went to live for while in the United Kingdom, specifically in the city of London, where we expanded our knowledge in the area of photography, cinema and design to create KOKO Art Studio, our company where we advise, maximize and materialize ideas for our clients in the areas mentioned above, at the same time during our stay in London I came up with the idea of creating a rock / blues duo influenced in large part by the flat duo jets, the white stripes, The black keys among others, La Real Academia, is a concept that for its creators is when the old and the subliminal go hand in hand, in 2015 we decided to come to the States United and establish ourselves in such an amazing place as Houston, where I met a friend from the past and we were able to solidify our sound, the current drummer of La Real Academia “Raúl Rodríguez” in 2017 was an incredible year for us, we had the opportunity to give multiple shows in the city of Houston, sharing stage with local bands and also great exponents of the music of our country as Caramelos de Cianuro (Live at White Oak Music Hall) and Zapato 3, we were also present at the annual festival held in the city of Austin, Tx “Pecan Street Festival” and also at the great festival “Musikfest” “in Pennsylvania, our most recent single recorded, mixed and mastered by the genius of Andres Melo at The Little Box Studio “Austin Tx” was released in October of that same year, I had a conversation with the creators of Eastwood guitars (Liverpool Branch officce) about their products of which I am a fan, instruments used by people like Jack White, Robert Smith, Juan Luis Guerra, on the side of KOKO Art Studio we had the honor of working with Brittani Washington, former keyboardist of Beyoncé in an official video for her new single, Andrea, my wife designed a campaign in favor of Houston during the tragedy caused by Hurricane Harvey, the campaign got the attention from the Honest brand, which is led by the actress Jessica Alba, At the end of 2017 we started a very interesting project with plastic surgeon Dr. Emmanuel De La Cruz, specialist in 4d liposculpture, Today I am grateful for everything I have had the opportunity to do and now with more strength, we have a new member in our team, our little baby Lucas De Lima that every day fills us with strength to move forward, if you want to know a little more of our history or of the projects that we will develop in the future do not hesitate to visit our website and our social networks.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Every road has its stumbling blocks, especially when it’s your turn to start again in another country, leave your family, friends, pets and a series of incredible memories in places where you will not be back for a long time, is quite difficult, in my situation, I was forced to leave my beloved country Venezuela in search of success, I want to be very clear with this, I do not want to sound overrated, Venezuela is going through a critical situation in all aspects, the success I was looking for was simply to live a quiet life, be With my wife and son and enjoy our time together, the simple things of life, visit new places, enjoy a glass of wine and watch the sun go down is the success I was looking for, on our arrival in the United States I worked as I cook in some restaurants in which I lived incredible moments and I met great people but I had little time to share with the most precious thing that I have, my family, we worked hard to improve that, nowadays we work together hand in hand so that our clients have a satisfactory experience and above all we feel that every day our work grows.

La Real Academia is my biggest anti stress method, it helps me a lot to drain any vague thoughts that may be in my head, especially when I have a lot of work, making music is something that will always be in me, developing music for La Real Academia or for KOKO Art Studio is something that fills me with enthusiasm in each part of the process.
