Today we’d like to introduce you to Cliff Franks.
Cliff, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always been an artist. I remember finding an interest in art and drawing from my older brother. He would always draw these underwater scenes and some of my first memories regarding art were mimicking his concepts. Also, both my parents are artistic and have encouraged me throughout my years. I just never stopped creating. Years of practice and an ever-evolving attention to detail has guided me to where I am now.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been mostly smooth. I don’t make my living as a “professional” artist, so I never experienced the ‘starving artist’ hindrances. I’ve been a Graphic Designer for over 15 years. Which, I guess has its own struggles. The largest hindrance to my creative outlet is time itself. My work takes a ridiculous amount of time to complete. It’s not uncommon for me to spend months on a single illustration.

I have a dedicated website at CliffFranksArt.com that acts as a personal portfolio and a store to buy prints. While I’ve dabbled in Oil painting, my expertise is in Graphite illustration. I think people can appreciate the meticulous detail in my work.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Oh man, many things. I would’ve practiced, researched, practiced, studied, practiced, found more art heroes, and practiced. It wasn’t until relatively recently that I truly found my art inspirations. Thanks internet!
