Daevion Smith’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

Daevion Smith shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Daevion, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Absolutely. One recent moment that made me both laugh and feel proud was during Summerfest. It was such a great experience being surrounded by talented artists and an energetic crowd. There were a few lighthearted moments backstage that had everyone cracking up, but what stood out the most was seeing people vibe to my performance — singing along and feeling the energy. It reminded me why I do what I do and made me proud of how far I’ve come as an artist.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is LACED, and I’m an R&B artist dedicated to creating music that tells real stories and connects deeply with people’s emotions. My sound blends smooth melodies, soulful vocals, and honest lyrics that capture the highs and lows of love, growth, and self-reflection.

What makes my brand unique is its focus on authenticity. Every song, visual, and creative decision comes from a real place — I want listeners to feel the emotion behind the music. The name “LACED” itself represents being tied together by passion, truth, and experience — everything that makes us human.

Right now, I’m continuing to build on that vision through my upcoming releases and visuals. Each project reflects a different side of who I am as an artist and as a person. My goal is to create timeless R&B that speaks to this generation while honoring the ones before it — music that not only sounds good but leaves something behind.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world told me who I had to be, I was just a kid who loved creating — whether it was music, ideas, or moments that made people feel something. I wasn’t focused on fitting in or following trends; I just wanted to express myself and find meaning in the things I felt. Over time, life and expectations can try to box you in, but I’ve learned to hold on to that same freedom and curiosity I had before. That’s really what fuels LACED — staying true to who I was before the noise and letting that purity shine through the music.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yeah, there were definitely moments where I almost gave up. This journey as an independent artist isn’t easy — there are times when the support feels distant, the progress feels slow, and the pressure to figure everything out gets heavy. But every time I got close to walking away, something reminded me why I started — a message from someone who connected with my music, a new song idea that reignited my fire, or just remembering the bigger picture. Those moments remind me that purpose doesn’t disappear just because things get hard. I realized that every challenge I’ve faced has shaped me into the artist I am today, and that’s what keeps me going.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say what really matters to me is my family, my music, and my heart. Family keeps me grounded — they’re my foundation and my reason for pushing forward. Music is my purpose, the way I express everything I can’t always put into words. And my heart… that’s what guides it all. Whether it’s how I treat people, how I create, or how I move through life, I lead with love and intention in everything I do.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m creating — whether that’s being in the studio, writing, or just catching a vibe that turns into something real. Music is my release; it’s where everything slows down and makes sense. Outside of that, I also find peace being around family or in quiet moments where I can just breathe and reflect. Those are the times that recharge me and remind me of who I am beyond the noise.
