Hi Laura, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Our family’s story began with my grandmother, who launched her beauty career in her 50s and opened her own salon in 1992. After years of hardship as a widowed mother of six, she built something entirely her own—a place that became the foundation of our family’s legacy. Her oldest son, David, later joined her and has been a dedicated barber for over 25 years. Today, David’s four daughters have proudly followed in their footsteps, each carrying on the family tradition behind the chair. In 2025—33 years after it all began—we took the next step by opening Fort Bend Barber College, the first barber school in our city. Family owned and operated, our mission is to honor our grandmother’s legacy while sharing our craft and inspiring the next generation of barbers.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Over the years, our family has had to adapt to an ever-changing industry, overcome setbacks, and learn to balance business with family life. Building clientele over the years requires years of consistency, showing up and building genuine relationships. Opening Fort Bend Barber College brought its own obstacles—navigating licensing, building a curriculum, and creating something entirely new for our city. But through every struggle, our passion and purpose have remained the same: to honor my grandmother’s legacy, uplift our community, and inspire the next generation of barbers to believe that with hard work and heart, anything is possible
