Hi Katelyn, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Cactus Glow Studio began from a simple childhood memory that never really left me. When I was younger, I’d travel with my mom and always look for souvenirs with my name on them—but I could never find one. My name isn’t unusual, yet it was never there, and it always left me a little disappointed.
Living in such a diverse area made me realize that feeling probably isn’t unique to me.
I started Cactus Glow Studio with two small tables of engraved coasters to see what people were drawn to. Coasters make timeless gifts and naturally spark conversation. From there, I invested in a portable laser so I could engrave items right at the market. Now, people can walk away with something made just for them in minutes.
For me, Cactus Glow Studio is about creativity, connection, and those little moments that make someone feel special.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been plenty of growing pains, from testing new materials and learning new techniques to figuring out what’s actually achievable in a market setting. Balancing creativity with practicality has been one of the hardest parts. Some items take longer to engrave than others, so I’ve had to find ways to keep things efficient while still personal.
There’s also a lot of behind-the-scenes problem-solving, like powering my laser without a noisy generator or finding ways to draw people in. Each market has taught me something new, and I always leave thinking about how I can make things better next time.
It hasn’t been easy, but every challenge has pushed me to grow, create, and improve, and that’s part of what makes it all so rewarding.
