Exploring Life & Business with Shagdrick Hill of Shagdrick Hill LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shagdrick Hill.

Shagdrick, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Houston native. Joined the Navy at 17. Became a father at 20, which forced me to grow up fast. My life completely changed. I later got married and spent 15 years building a family. As a proud girl dad of two daughters, everything I did was driven by them. I began my career in corporate America but quickly found myself unfulfilled and eventually unemployed. At 25, I went back to school and earned degrees in finance and accounting, hoping to become a financial planner. Instead, I pivoted into insurance, where I’ve now worked for over 11 years. While the experience taught me a lot, I still felt unfulfilled. That led me to start a business in government contracting. It provided financial stability and allowed me to help veterans, but once again, the sense of purpose was missing. I finally realized that my fulfillment was never tied to a job title or income. It was rooted in purpose. During that time, I wrote The Do What You’re Told Leader, a book that challenges traditional leadership and encourages people to lead with obedience, humility, and purpose. After publishing the book, I came to understand that my own purpose was to expose people to God’s love by inspiring and motivating them to become the best versions of themselves according to His will. This led me to the work I now find most fulfilling: public speaking, coaching, and leadership training. It allows me to help others unlock what’s inside of them for their growth and the good of those around them.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, mostly because I did things in what society might call out of order. The obstacles I’ve faced have shaped my purpose, and now I use those experiences to help others. Some of the struggles I faced along the way were poverty, brokenness, becoming a parent early, divorce, and a deep sense of unfulfillment. For a long time, I didn’t know who I was. Looking back, I can see how every one of those experiences was connected to that lack of identity and how they ultimately guided me toward discovering who I truly am.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We help individuals, teams, and organizations discover who they are, strengthen how they lead, and align what they do with purpose. Our work focuses on identity, leadership, and transformation, creating spaces where people grow from the inside out.

What sets us apart is our identity-first approach. We believe true leadership and fulfillment start with self-awareness and purpose. By blending practical tools like DISC and Kolbe with real-world application, we help people and teams build clarity, confidence, and measurable results.

We’re most proud of how our programs bridge inspiration with action. Whether through workshops, coaching, or keynotes, we equip people to unlock what’s already within them and lead with purpose in every area of life.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I believe the speaking and coaching industry will continue to grow over the next five to ten years. As people start seeking clarity about who they are earlier in life, the demand for identity and purpose work will only increase. With how fast life moves today, more people are finding themselves in seasons of transition, which creates an even greater need for guidance and personal growth. I also see online platforms playing a bigger role, making coaching and development more accessible to people everywhere.
