Today we’d like to introduce you to Captain Noe Frausto.
Hi Captain Noe, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have been boating/fishing since I was 5 years old. Being on the water has been a passion of mine all of my life. This love for the natural habitat of the Texas Coast was passed on to me from my late Father and Mother who loved the beach and all of the Texas Coast. Two years ago, I decided to make it official, so I attended Captain School and attained my Master Captains License. A year later we launched Catalina Sunset Cruises & Fishing Charters in the Kemah and Clear Lake area. I was inspired by friends who had lived in Houston for over 20 years and had never experienced the fun and joy that being on the water can bring. Seeing how much they enjoyed a day on the boat inspired me to launch this business. I can’t explain how much fun it is to bring smiles, laughter, and forever memories to other families. I truly love and enjoy being a captain and being in the business of making long lasting memories for others. The Catalina name is inspired by my mother as this was her name. We offer great value at Catalina Sunset Cruises & Fishing Charters. The boat is much larger than the average bay boat with many amenities and technology. We offer boating days, fishing days, sightseeing, dolphin watches, swimming, or a combination of all.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not smooth or easy. We have such a great value in comparison to anything out there in our price range, but having customers find you is challenging. Getting through Captain school and logging in the hundreds of hours on a boat prior to being able to launch the business is a long and costly process. We are a small family owned business where you always get the Captain or my wife Norma who is my deckhand. We take pride in this, but it does keep us busy. From answering phones/emails, setting up appointments, to being the Captain and Host during a charter, and cleaning the boat after, we always provide our clients with the best efforts. We learn on every trip a little something of how to make every trip even smoother and more fun.
As you know, we’re big fans of Catalina Sunset Cruises & Fishing Charters. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We offer half and full day boating excursions. This can include sightseeing, dolphin watches, dock and dine experiences, swimming, and fishing. We are unique in that we can offer a combination trip, where most offer either a boating day or a fishing day. Our Boat is a much larger than the typical bay boat. We offer a 32’ vessel with sea keeper technology that offers the smoothest ride, air conditioned restroom, and many other amenities. Our prices include extra amenities, such as lily pad, floating devices, etc. Our sunset cruises are a phenomenal experience and especially on Friday evenings in the summer where fireworks display is included. There is something magical about being under the fireworks with an open view from Galveston Bay. We are a small family owned business whose inspiration is to bring smiles and help families/friends make memories. Our pricing brings great value as we are in the same price range as other boats that are a third of the value. Both my wife and I were in the education field for many years, we bring the same kind of caring and teaching on board our vessel. We provide a great and relaxing time, but also teach anyone that want to learn.
How do you think about happiness?
Helping family and friends make lifelong memories on the water. I grew up fishing and boating and have some of the greatest memories of my life on the water. Seeing others make those same memories is nostalgic for me.
