Rising Stars: Meet LuLu Parish of Southside

Today we’d like to introduce you to LuLu Parish.

Hi LuLu, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
“I’ve always believed that growth is both messy and beautiful.”

My name is LuLu Parish. I’m a fun-sized girl from the Southside of Houston, Tx. I’m a creative, storyteller, and the founder of Weird Little Flower Child, a brand that bloomed from my own journey of healing and self-expression. To me, creativity is a form of growth. Every collection I design tells a story about transformation, resilience, and embracing your truest self. Weird Little Flower Child isn’t just fashion; it’s a reflection of real life, the struggles, the lessons, and the beauty that comes from pushing through them.

I’m currently expanding that same creative energy into sound with a new venture as SoundsByBluum, my upcoming DJ identity. It’s a space I’m still growing into — one that merges my love for nostalgic R&B, intentional storytelling, and emotional connection through music. I see it as an extension of my art, yet another way to express, to feel, and to create experiences that move people.

At the heart of it all, I’m just a woman rooted in purpose, creativity, and growth. Who’s still learning, unlearning, evolving, and blooming in every direction I’m called.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
If I’m being real, this journey hasn’t been easy. With Weird Little Flower Child, one of my biggest struggles has been learning how to protect my brand. Creativity comes from such a sacred place — and when people steal or copy your designs, it feels personal. It’s one thing to be inspired, but it’s another to take something that came straight from your soul and try to claim it. That part has tested me more than anything. I’ve had to remind myself not to let that discourage me or make me shrink back. Instead, I use it as motivation to keep evolving, keep creating, and keep standing firm in what makes my work mine.

On the DJ side, it’s been a different kind of challenge. My controller broke just two months into my learning journey, just as I was finally finding my rhythm. At first, I took it as a setback, but it’s actually pushed me to go deeper. I’ve spent this time doing my research, learning the business side, and figuring out what sound truly represents me. It reminded me that even when something breaks, the passion behind it doesn’t have to.

Both worlds have taught me the same lesson: you can’t rush your growth. There’s beauty in the process, even when it’s frustrating. Every obstacle has forced me to slow down, stay grounded, and trust that what’s meant for me creatively and spiritually, can’t be taken away.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At my core, I’m a creative storyteller. Everything I do, whether it’s through Weird Little Flower Child or my upcoming DJ venture, SoundsByBluum, comes from a place of emotion, intention, and truth.

With Weird Little Flower Child, I design from experience. Each collection tells a story about growth, healing, and becoming. My brand isn’t just about clothes, it’s about connection. I want people to feel something when they see or wear my pieces, to feel seen, inspired, or reminded of their own strength. I’m most proud of how organic it’s all been. I built this brand from the ground up. From the designs and storytelling to the photography and marketing and I’ve stayed true to the message, even when things got hard.

What sets me apart is how personal my work is. I don’t create from trends, I create from truth. I pour my own emotions, experiences, and growth into everything I do, which is why it resonates so deeply with people. My work is rooted in authenticity, and I think that’s rare in a world where so much feels copied or surface-level.

As for DJing, that’s still unfolding, but even there, I approach it with the same intention, to create something that feels like a mood, a memory, or a moment. Whether through fabric or sound, my goal is the same: to tell stories that move people and remind them that there’s beauty in their own process too.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something most people don’t know about me is that since birth, the odds have always kind of been against me and honestly, that’s what fuels me every single day. I grew up in the system from just three months old until I was about ten. After that, I moved in with my dad and three of my brothers. I was the only girl as none of my sisters lived with us. However, my oldest sister and aunts played a major role in my childhood.

Because of that, I had to learn how to figure a lot of things out on my own. How to adapt, how to protect my peace, how to make something out of nothing. That independence shaped me into the woman and creative I am now. It taught me resilience before I even knew what that word meant.

So when people see my brand, my art, or even my upcoming DJ journey, what they’re really seeing is survival turned into purpose. I pour all of that, the pain, the strength, the lessons into everything I do. Weird Little Flower Child isn’t just a name; it’s a reflection of that story. It’s about growing despite what tries to bury you.
