Hi Kayla, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: Who are you learning from right now?
God.
I’ve come to realize lately, being creative and sharing that creativity through photography (and other ways) is just a product of being an image bearer.
There’s not one gallery that I’ve sent out that has been identical to another. Even if the session is inspired by another one, there’s still individuality there. The uniqueness of each gallery I’ve created reminds me of the uniqueness of each of us created, which I don’t find coincidental. The closer I’ve gotten to God, the more I’ve realized how we are such reflections of Him. Even down to our work and hobbies. Absolutely amazing.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Kayla!
I’m a Jesus-loving, homeschooling mama who’s always daydreaming about a little homestead and thriving in the everyday chaos of family life.
I’ve owned Kb Lifestyle Photography since 2018! I specialize in lifestyle photography for families, couples, and small business owners who want photos that feel real and personal, not stiff or super posed. My heart is to capture moments that are natural and true to who you are!
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with the Lord is what has shaped me the most.
The fact that we’re made in God’s image and that Jesus selflessly died for us not only has shaped how I’ve seen myself, but also how I see others. That alone pours out into how I see my clients!
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, homeschooling and running a business ain’t for the weak!
Anytime I feel the need to take a break from photography, the Lord brings me a client who lights that fire back up in me to continue on.
I absolutely adore all of my clients and a lot have become great friends or like family! I’m always so honored to be apart of capturing their memories.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
As you can probably tell from my answers by now – God and family!
Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life!
When I turned to the Lord, truly surrendering, there was a peace that overwhelmed me that surpassed all understanding. In the circumstances I was in, I called out to God, surrendering, and the peace I instantly felt didn’t make sense. From then on, I’ve wanted to share with others where that peace came from.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I don’t know if photography is what I was born to do, but I know there’s purpose in it.
There’s just something about seeing families united together for a session, seeing a couple pause to focus on each other throughout their session, & seeing small business owners in their element. During my sessions, it’s like time slows down a bit and it gives people a moment to just be. It’s always refreshing!
