An Inspired Chat with Ke’Shawn Robinson of Houston

We recently had the chance to connect with Ke’Shawn Robinson and have shared our conversation below.

Ke’Shawn, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Ke’shawn Robinson aka Lilmisshouston or Ke Be Steppin. Most people know me from rodeo season when a lot of my content started going viral. Since then, I have been become a line dance instructor and Houston influencer. I’ve been booked for big events in Houston hosting and teaching line dances. I’ve been in videos with artist such as Mr boots on the ground himself, 803fresh and the line dance king Cupid. My videos have reached over 10 millions views worldwide between line dancing and acting content. I have events throughout the Houston area known as “Steppas House” where I bring the line dance energy combined with a party feel. I believe my line dancing is a little different in Houston because I bring my southern roots from the Carolina’s to Houston. I started doing this in memory of my grandmother who was born and raised in Hardeeville, South Carolina. She loved line dancing, trail rides, and loved to throw parties and show people a great time! Right now I am working on expanding my events not only in Houston but surrounding cities! I can’t wait to grow this into a huge movement!

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child I believed that dreams come true. Now I believe that dreams come true to those who put in work. A lot of people see the good but not the long nights and hard times. A lot of people think success comes “overnight” but that’s because the struggles are silenced and the success is loud.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I would say the fear of failure has held me back most of my life. Now I embrace failure! I try not to ponder on it but I think of what I can do next time to have another outcome. I understand that all things may not come out successful the first time. But that’s where faith and determination comes in to know that it’s not a “NO” it’s just not a “RIGHT NOW”. But one day it will happen!

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say perfection really matters to me! And I’m not sure if that’s a good thing because most of the time it’s what makes simple things more complicated for me. Everything has to be perfect especially for my events that’s why they are so spaced out.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m doing what I was born to do. The difference is the passion and the joy I have for it. I believe people can feel when they are born to do something. It feels natural and less like a job.
