We recently had the chance to connect with Zaira Rodríguez and have shared our conversation below.
Zaira , a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
The biggest misunderstanding is that doulas replace medical care. We don’t. we complement it. My role is to nurture, educate, and hold space for families so they feel calm, confident, and supported through God’s design for birth.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Meet Your Doula, Zaira 🤍
The heart behind A Rise Birth Doula is simple:
to walk alongside families with compassion, faith, and gentle guidance as they welcome new life.
My journey started in 2014, when I began working for the WIC program as a Lactation Peer Counselor. Supporting mothers through feeding challenges opened my eyes to how deeply families need encouragement and education.
After some time away to grow my own family, I returned to work as a Lactation Assistant at Texas Children’s Hospital for three years. There, I saw firsthand how much families needed continued support after leaving the hospital, and that’s what led me to become a Doula.
Now, as a Mother of 4, Lactation Educator, and Student Midwife, I’m honored to provide care that bridges the gap, helping families feel confident, informed, and supported from pregnancy through postpartum.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My mother taught me the most about my work because she was such a hard worker, especially as a single mom, and always taken care of my sibling and I and she was always from sunrise to sundown making sure she provided enough, and we had a good childhood as kids
When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
Sara scared as a child. The thing that Help the most was definitely God. I feel like God has been always there for me even as a child and maybe not having an actual relationship with him. But I knew that there was just something in me. That knew that there was a bigger force out there, always looking out for me and guiding me and protecting me.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
As a doula, I differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts by always returning to evidence-based care and the lived experiences of the families I serve. Trends come and go, but real change in birth work is rooted in education, safety, and empowerment. I stay informed through continuing education, collaboration with midwives and healthcare professionals, and most importantly, by listening to what truly supports birthing families long-term, not just what’s popular online.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel the most peace when I can sense God’s presence in the birth space, when mama breathes through the waves, her partner holds her hand, and everything slows down into a quiet confidence. It’s in those moments I’m reminded that birth is holy work, and I’m just there to serve and hold space.
