Jennifer Corona shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I have two young kids, so time is very limited for me these days! One thing that is bringing me joy outside of the creativity that comes with my job as a photographer is my new morning and evening routine with my husband. Goodbye to the days of turning the TV on when the kids go down, or waking up when they do. We are practicing new rhythms in our home of connecting in conversations in the evening and starting our day reading our Bibles with a cup of tea before the kids get up! This has truly brought me so much joy, I know there are long term benefits with these new rhythms and that also spurs us on!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a Family & Newborn Photographer here in Houston, Texas. I love helping preserve memories for families through the art of photography. My heart really is for celebrating the gift of family in each stage whether that is a baby announcement, maternity session, in-home newborn or classic family session year after year! Extended family sessions are also special to me because each family bond is so important to nurture. My background as a nurse has really helped shape my interactions with families, especially utilizing my experience in Labor & Delivery to help new parents swaddle their baby or soothe them as needed! It’s a joy for me to still experience those newborn moments outside of the hospital setting! As a mom of 2, I feel a special connection with each family welcoming their new baby or learning to wrangle a toddler for their session!
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
My dad is the one who taught me most about work, He always went the extra mile for his company and excelled for the duration of his working career. When he would receive awards or achieve the quota for his company trip, he would always thank God, He knew his purpose was to work to the best of his ability because he ultimately served the Lord. He also would give God the glory for each achievement, knowing that God opened the way for him. This has really shaped how I view work in my own life- there is no doubt in my mind God has gone before me and given me favor in my business! I am blown away by the blessing He has put over my business and how He has provided the most amazing clients (many who have become my friends now!) My dad’s example has impacted how I feel in relation to my own work and achievements in my business- I’m doing it unto the Lord.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You don’t have to be everything to everyone, You get to be yourself! There’s only one of me and that is on purpose, because I have a specific purpose. When I was trying to fill the needs of everyone around me, I got lost. I wasn’t made to do that! I was made to be the best version of myself and with that, to glorify God.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The photography industry is full of beautiful and creative people. One of the biggest lies I think the industry tells itself is that “perfect” exists. I think beautiful exists, and unique exists, and joyful exists… but perfection is not something to hang your hat on. Finding the beauty in each session is key!
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I am in prayer. I get to talk to God and share every single thing on my heart and mind and I know that He hears me, In the last few weeks especially I’ve felt and seen God move in my own life when I’ve asked Him to show me He sees me and cares for me.
