Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Shianne Woods of Katy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Shianne Woods. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Shianne, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? When was the last time you felt true joy?
The last time I felt true joy? That’s an easy one. If have to say back in March when we brought our daughter home to meet the rest of the family. To see my husband enjoy a newborn again. My son to become a big brother. My older girls to fall in love again with being a big sister. It’s been such a joyful time.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Shianne and I’m the proud owner of Shi’s Soothing Scents, LLC. What started out in 2020 as a way to unwind during lockdown has flourished into a grassroots candle and bath/body company. My family has been along for the ride, from product testing, brainstorming, working markets, the works. We’re truly proud of what this has become over the years.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I thought the ultimate career was a cushy desk job; a 9-5 with a retirement plan and weekends off. When I achieved this goal, over time, I felt so unfulfilled and insignificant. Starting my own business has helped me to realize that the only limitations to success are the ones I place on myself.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I would say that I’ve always been the most afraid of not being in control. As I have gotten older, I have loosened the reigns some, but the fear of losing everything I’ve worked so hard to obtain is real.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I believe in building a legacy and generational wealth. Growing up, I didn’t have a support system, everyone was struggling. Everything that my family has, we’ve worked really hard for. I want to be able to leave behind more than memories, well wishes and debt- something my kids and their kids can be proud to say is theirs.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel the most at peace when I’m in my candle lab. Door closed, music on, creating new products. It’s so serene to tune out the world and just create.
