We recently had the chance to connect with Zeaky Bobby and have shared our conversation below.
Zeaky , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
My son, Ishaq. My fiance , Nique, recently gave birth to our son Ishaq Messiah. We have a daughter, and he our first son and my first biological child. He will be 2 in February. So it’s been quite an experience watching him grow up and learning about children and dealing with emotions and enjoying being a father. My goddaughter is now grown and away at college, so i’m starting all over.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I go by Zeaky Bobby. For over 20 years, I co-hosted along with DJ Chill and Skyla Dawn on Houston’s Number 1 Underground Hip Hop Show on KPFT 90.1. FM, Damage Control.
I am the owner of Garage Gang Clothing, where we tell the stories of our neighborhood legends through the photos on the t-shirts. It was my way of paying homage to the OGs that laid the foundation, for all these different families to come together as brothers in this conglomerate we got called Families United 2Gether (FU2)
i am also working on my slowed down mixtapes series for the screw heads that miss the vibe of the legend Dj Screw and his tapes. I was a friend of DJ Screw, I have always been a fan and I became a student of his craft.
The radio programs us with nothing but the mainstream artists. Houston has a lot of talented artists, that’s actually jamming and spitting some real talk. If they can’t hear them on the radio, I want them to be heard on a Zeaky Bobby tape.
I have about 30 slowed down mixtapes since I started this journey in 2020, and currently this year, i’m on a mission to complete 1 or more every month.
I’m always eager to discover new artists from Houston that’s representing.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
recently, my family suffered the loss of our grandmother, the matriarch of our family. you write your obituary while you are living. the stories told about her life was proof of the impact she had on the people she touched. we should all aspire to leave a lasting mark in this world.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self to remove all self doubt and to train your mind to believe that you can achieve anything you want in life. Know that you are made in the same image and likeness of God and there is nothing that you can not do.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
the biggest lies is the industry tells is that it sells us a lifestyle that’s a facade. as you move throughout these circles, you’ll see the lifestyle we see online, is not real life. everybody is lying. the jewelry is borrowed, the houses are air bnb, the cars are rented. we put on for people that’s going to talk about your behind your backs, lol. Hov told us it’s only entertainment.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
if i knew i had 10 years left, immediately I would stop wasting time. time is the most precious thing that we can’t get back. a quote that always resonated with me is a man who does not respect time does not respect life. we waste so much time and energy on unnecessary drama that we’re missing out as a people. i think we all should be living like we know we only have 10 years left. as a people, we need a sense of urgency to unite among ourselves and build our communities, build a future, lay a foundation for our children. we don’t have the time we think we have.
