We’re looking forward to introducing you to Brandi Michelle. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Brandi, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
My discernment is top-tier, so energy wins every time. You can be brilliant, articulate, and check all the boxes on paper, but if your energy feels off the minute we’re in the same space, that’s a red flag for me. I’m polite, but I’ll keep my distance. I’ve worked way too hard to reach this level of peace, and I’m not letting anyone’s chaos disturb it.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Most people online know me as B. Chelle Writes. I’m an indie author who communicates best through words. As an introvert, writing has always been my safe space, the place where my thoughts flow freely and my imagination takes over.
I’ve been writing since I was a little girl, and storytelling has always been second nature to me. I love creating unforgettable characters and giving readers a mix of fiction that feels real and inspirational works that feed the soul. What sets my stories apart is that every female character carries a little piece of me: my thoughts, my experiences, my “what ifs.”
I’ve had readers still bringing up situations from my very first book, and that dropped over fifteen years ago, which tells me the stories stick. My goal has always been simple: to help people escape for a while, get lost in a world that feels familiar, and fall in love with characters they wish they could hang out with in real life.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was a little girl with big dreams. I dreamed of being a best-selling author, seeing my stories come to life on stage and on screen. I was always encouraged to dream big until my dreams got too big for some people’s comfort. Then it became, “Be realistic. How are you going to do that? Focus on something you can depend on.”
But now? Now I feel it’s my responsibility to prove to that little girl inside me that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with dreaming big. The problem was never the dream, it was the small-minded people who couldn’t see it.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Caring too much about what other people thought. I let other people’s opinions shape the choices I made in my life, not theirs. For a long time, I played the background, following directions from people who never had to live with the consequences of those choices.
But eventually, I got tired. I realized people are going to talk no matter what you do, so you might as well live fully and on purpose. I only get one life, and I refuse to spend it shrinking to make anyone else comfortable. Those who get it will rock with me, and those who don’t… won’t. Either way, I’m still going to be me.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
Believing they did it all on their own. Talent and intelligence can only take you so far, favor takes you the rest of the way. I know exactly where my blessings come from and Who orders my steps. That’s why I make it a point to give God the praise and thanks every chance I get.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
I’ll regret not tuning out the noise from people who weren’t even walking in their own purpose sooner. A lot of them weren’t doing anything with their gifts, but had something to say when they saw me doing something with mine. If I had learned to block that out ten years ago, I’d be a lot further by now. But honestly, better late than never. I’m right where I’m supposed to be, and I’m not letting up now.
