Avina of Houston on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Avina. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Avina, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Of course I stumble out of bed, get ready, & go on a drive!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello! I’m Avina – it’s nice to virtually meet you! I am a 20 year old singer & songwriter with The Hello Group administered by Sony Music Publishing. My forte is writing for K-pop artists but I also have a passion for creating my own music and bringing out the artist within myself.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I’d say there are two people who saw me clearly long before I saw myself. In the most non cliche way possible I’d say #1 my mom because she saw the dreams I dreamt before I knew they were even possible. In spot #2 I’d say my Mentor Alawn; he’s the one who took me under his wing and made me realize the potential I had and why I should never let go of that. Together, they both have sparked the fire in me other than myself.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, and I think I just passed that phase in my life. Life changes and things happen that always get in the way of your purpose and sometimes you allow those things to strip you away because it feels as if that’s the way it’s supposed to go. My answer would be that I just recently gave up until I realized that nothing is more important than prioritizing the dreams that matter most to you no matter how much reality hits you.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Of course. I think the reason most people that are successful nowadays has a lot to do with their authenticity and especially for artists. I always make it a priority to show the real me at all times meaning there’s no other versions. Theres a wrong and right time to act a certain way but I stick to being my true self always and I hope I inspire people to do the same. People will love the real you, there’s no reason to make different versions of yourself for the public eye.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people tell the story of my heart. How my heart always led every action I made, every dream I had, how deeply I love the people I know, and how my heart was what kept me going (physically & figuratively haha) through my entire life being that I always chase what I want without stopping because that’s what my heart tells me to do.
