Craig Klein shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Craig, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
Our customer support organization and processes. We’ve been killing the competition in onboarding and supporting customers for 20+ years.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Craig is the founder and CEO of SalesNexus.com, a leading CRM, marketing automation and lead generation solution for sales teams from 10 to 100. He’s also the author of “Inside-Out Selling”, a guide to growing and managing sales teams. Craig works with small startups and Fortune 500’s to create systems that give salespeople more time to sell and more quality leads to sell to, while giving management the accountability that is so elusive in sales.
Prior to founding SalesNexus, Craig spent 15 years building and leading sales teams selling multi-million dollar, multi-year contracts to energy companies such as ExxonMobil, BP, Shell and Chevron. The long, complex selling environment within these energy behemoths gives Craig a keen sense of the risk of mis-allocated sales time.
Craig’s superior ability to discern a business owner’s goals, challenges and needs stems from his strong belief that listening skills are far more valuable than speaking skills. Craig’s belief that business growth is the engine of human advancement has led him to serve as a mentor to students in the University of Houston’s Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship.
Craig has written several popular e-books including “4 Steps to Market Domination”, “Grow Sales with Emails – 7 Simple Steps Salespeople Can Take Today” and the recent “Email Marketing for Sales Teams – Best Practices”. Craig is a contributor to Small Business Today Magazine, Premier Agent Magazine, The Customer Collective and SocialMediaToday.com. He has appeared as a featured speaker at the Digital Marketer’s Email World 2013, TEANA 2012 Conference, the American Association of Inside Sales Professionals Executive Summit 2015 and many other exhibitions and conferences.
Craig serves on the Board of Directors for the Houston Better Business Bureau. Craig is also a board member at Shelters to Shutters, a non-profit that helps find housing and jobs for homeless individuals in partnership with leaders in the Multi-family housing industry.
Craig’s the father of 3 beautiful children. He’s an avid sailor, hunter and skier. When he’s not growing SalesNexus or writing, he’s probably planning his next adventure to somewhere you’ve never heard of.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was an electrical engineer at NASA. Helping to design and install the government’s first fiber optic network.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
How to empathize with others.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Truth. The online world is so polluted with misinformation but, the tech is there to know the truth and prove it in various ways. The business models we’re stuck with just don’t support it.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If immortality were real, what would you build?
A meditation temple.
