We’re looking forward to introducing you to Matt Woodfill. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Matt, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
One of the moments that brought me real joy recently was authoring my new book, *The 2nd YES*. As I reflected on my writing journey, I became aware of how faithful the Lord Jesus has been in the parts of my story where things didn’t go as I had planned. While writing certain chapters—especially the hardest ones to relive—I found myself laughing at moments when God surprised me with grace I didn’t even know I needed.
There were times when I would type out a memory, expecting it to be heavy, and suddenly recall a small detail, a person, or even a funny moment that reminded me: the Lord Jesus was with me the entire time. Those flashes of joy changed my perspective on my journey, not as a series of disappointments, but as the pathway that led me to give the Lord my “second yes.”
The greatest joy was not only being recognized as an Amazon best seller, but also realizing that this book isn’t just my story; it’s a tool the Lord Jesus will use to speak to people who feel like life hasn’t matched their expectations. That realization made me smile more than once: even my broken places are being used for something beautiful.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Matt Woodfill, and I am the pioneering lead pastor of The Way Church in The Woodlands, Texas, where I have served a vibrant and growing community for over 20 years. I am known for my creative and unconventional approach to preaching and teaching the bible. Through the ministry, I have had the privilege of impacting lives for Christ, helping individuals discover their purpose, deepen their faith, and experience the transformative power of God’s grace.
Recently, I authored the Amazon bestseller, *The 2nd YES*. This is my personal journey of faith, resilience, and the life-changing power of saying “YES” to God’s calling when life does not work out the way you imagined or thought.
My communicating and preaching style is engaging and relatable, combining powerful illustrations with practical applications to bring timeless biblical truths to life.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with Jesus is the most important in my life because it’s the one that has shaped everything about who I am becoming. When my wife passed away unexpectedly, when doors closed, when plans fell apart, and when I didn’t recognize my own reflection in the mirror, it was Jesus who steadied me, guided me, and reminded me of who I truly am.
He’s the voice that speaks purpose when I feel lost, the peace that anchors me when life shakes, and the love that never changes, even when I do. Every meaningful decision, every turning point, every moment of growth in my life has come from walking with Him.
Simply put: Jesus didn’t just change my life—He’s shaped it, redeemed it, and continues to lead it forward. I keep giving Jesus my 2nd YES.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
When my wife passed away unexpectedly, it broke me in ways I never imagined. I was ready to walk away from ministry at The Way Church. I felt empty, exhausted, and convinced I had nothing left to give.
But in the middle of that grief, the Lord asked me a simple question: “Will you give Me your second yes?” Not the yes from easier days, but the yes that comes from deep pain and deeper faith.
I didn’t feel strong, but I surrendered, and that second yes is why I didn’t quit. It’s why I’m still standing, still pastoring, and still believing God can bring purpose from heartbreak. As I always say, “I’ve had many opportunities to quit, I just have never taken one of those opportunities.”
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
At the heart of my belief is this truth: Jesus Christ died on the cross, rose again on the third day, and anyone who places their trust in Him receives the free gift of salvation (John 3:16; Romans 10:9-10).
The heartbeat of my life is leading people to faith in Jesus, through my story, through my life, and through The Way Church, no matter how long it takes. I am committed to walking alongside people through their questions, struggles, and breakthroughs until they experience the hope, healing, and transformation that only Jesus can bring.
This mission isn’t just something I do; it is who I am. Whether it takes days, years, or a lifetime, I am dedicated to seeing lives changed, families restored, and hearts boldly say “yes” to Jesus. As we say at The Way Church, “Our goals represent souls.”
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Living my dream as the lead pastor of The Way Church didn’t come without pain. After losing my wife, Tammy, I faced deep grief and was ready to give up on my calling as the lead pastor of The Way Church. But God asked me for my 2nd YES. I gave it. Today, I am walking fully in my destiny, leading with faith, purpose, and the hope that only God can bring, even through the hardest seasons. Using my story of overcoming to help others overcome and not quit, when life doesn’t work out the way they thought, to give God their 2nd YES.
