Hi Corrie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
After 26 years in our respective corporate careers, my husband and I decided to pursue our ‘Plan B’. We wanted to run our own business but did not have a grass-roots idea, so we looked into franchising. Five years ago we purchased a Closets by Design franchise, and we haven’t looked back! We love serving our community and being an integral part of our day to day business operations.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Small business ownership comes with lots of bumps and bruises! There are macroeconomic factors such as politics and the greater economy that impact consumer behavior, supply costs and interest rates. Then there local factors at play such as company layoffs, severe weather, and even traffic that can affect business. We try to focus on delivering high quality products and service in everything that we do and control. For those things outside our control we can only try to understand how the community around us is impacted, help where we can, and mitigate risks to protect ourselves, our employees, and our customers from negative outcomes.
We’ve been impressed with Closets by Design of Houston South, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Closets by Design is the number one home organization company in our industry, The brand has been around for over forty years. We specialize in custom closets, cabinetry, and helping customers transform the spaces where they live and work. In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
We serve customers in a variety of situations, whether they are in a newly built home, a rental, or a renovation. We do see a trend toward renovations as customers seem to be waiting out high interest mortgages, so instead of moving they are upgrading the spaces that they currently live in. We have large homes in Houston, but not a lot of storage, so there will always be a need for custom closets, shelving, and cabinetry to help customers get organized!
