Life & Work with Tarien Mosquera of Kingwood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tarien Mosquera.

Hi Tarien, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started More Than Average Beauty with a simple goal, to help women feel confident, elevated, and truly seen. What began as a passion for beauty, especially lashes, quickly turned into something much bigger once I realized the impact a single appointment could have on how someone carries themselves.

In the beginning, I focused heavily on perfecting my craft, learning different lash styles, practicing consistently, and figuring out what made my work stand out. It wasn’t always easy balancing growth, building a loyal clientele, and navigating the business side, but I stayed committed to showing up and improving every step of the way.

What really sets me apart now is my specialization in soft glam. I’ve positioned myself in a unique space within the lash industry because I don’t just follow trends, I offer them while staying true to styles that naturally enhance my clients’ features. My goal is always to create a look that feels effortless, timeless, and elevated rather than overdone.

As my brand has grown, so has my vision. More Than Average Beauty is no longer just about lash services it’s evolving into a full beauty experience. I’m expanding into selling beauty products, tools, accessories, and exclusive pieces through my website, Morethanavgbeauty.com, allowing my clients to maintain that same standard of beauty beyond the appointment.

Today, I’ve built a business that reflects my standards, creativity, and commitment to quality. I’m still growing, still learning, and still pushing to go beyond “average” in everything I do. This is only the beginning, and I’m excited to continue expanding my brand and creating more opportunities within the beauty space.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, and honestly, it’s still a journey I’m navigating. One of my biggest challenges is mastering lash mapping and finding what truly works for me in terms of tools, products, and technique, it’s been a lot of trial and error.

Gaining clients has also taken time, consistency, and patience. On top of that, I’m balancing motherhood and working as a full-time teacher, then coming home to do lashes. It can be exhausting, but it’s part of the process and what’s helping me build something real and lasting.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m the owner and lash artist behind More Than Average Beauty, specializing in soft glam lash sets that enhance natural beauty with a soft, elevated finish. My focus is on customized sets that complement each client’s features rather than a one-size-fits-all style.

I’m known for my attention to detail, cleanliness, content consistency, and my soft glam approach that allows me to stay timeless while still offering trending looks in a refined way. What sets me apart is that I prioritize enhancement over excess, making sure every set still feels like the client—just elevated.

What I’m most proud of is building my brand while balancing motherhood and a full-time teaching career. More Than Average Beauty is also expanding into beauty products, tools, accessories, and exclusive pieces through my website, growing into a full beauty experience beyond lash services.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My biggest advice for anyone just starting out is simply… start. Don’t wait until everything feels perfect, because growth comes through doing, practicing, and learning as you go. Consistency and repetition are what really build your skill.

Practice as much as you can, stay patient with yourself, and don’t compare your journey to anyone else’s. It’s important to find your own style and stay true to it instead of trying to copy other artists.

One thing I also wish I knew earlier is how valuable hands-on education is. Investing in a one-on-one training can really help you fast-track your progress and avoid a lot of trial and error.

Most importantly, be yourself. Your uniqueness is what will set you apart in this industry.
